What's the worst that could happen ... A CME that I mentioned in the SHTF vehicle thread, might make those vehicles worthless.

Space Weather has already seen CME hitting the Earth from this spot, and is looking at more activity around the end of the month

Oh my gawd! It's about to eat the earth!

On second thought, it looks like something my porn filter should have stopped!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

I've always been afraid of this sort of thing.

Yeah, that was the line back in the 70's, too. Then, along came Al Gore and his "green meanies" who decided that the planet is actually getting warmer.

Anything will happen, if given enough time. However, in the life span of a human being, you would have to be either very lucky or unlucky (depending on your pov) to see anything very dramatic in any direction, vis-a-vis climate.

BTW, "serious scientists" (as opposed to "political scientists") have shown that the Earth's climate is related to the activity of the Sun, overwhelmingly more than any other factor. Currently, the Sun is going into a period when sun spots increase in number. From records kept over the past couple hundred years, it appears that temperatures on Earth increase during these times.

If you're so inclined, this is a good read concerning solar activity and climate ...

Actually, that article looks to contain quite a bit of pseudo-science babble.

From the article; (bold by me, not the author)
He claimed that the Maunder Minimum coincided in time with an era of colder weather, and that by implication the absence of magnetic activity was accompanied by a net fall in the total radiative output of the Sun.
I guess the author has conveniently "forgotten" that there is tremendous amounts of data showing how increased sun spot activity causes higher solar radiative output.

Plus the authors do not appear to be dispassionate scientists. They are rather "green activists".

These aspirations are of course legitimate, and there is indeed much work to be done in the field, but one should be aware of the political background to this delicate issue, and not fall into the trap of using possible solar warming as an excuse for delay in reducing man-made emissions of greenhouse gases. Whatever the magnitude of the effects of these in the long term, there is no doubt that their concentration has increased dramatically in the past 30 years, and that for many reasons this is not a desirable path to follow.
I highlighted where they explicitly state that no matter what the DATA shows, greenhouse gasses are bad. Apparently just because they say so...

This was forecast a while back and suppose to peak around May of 2013.
NASA and the Gubmint have already began to harden the electrical grid. NASA is also developing an early warning system with one of the satellites (SOHO?) I think.
I worked for NASA for 37 years before being laid off 3 months ago.

Got a job at the local liquor store making minimum wage and was laid off yesterday.

Don't feel too bad. They wrote it well. There are a few tip offs to look for. The authors of real science papers are nearly all quite vain and will include things like, PhD, Professor, Dr. Etc.

NASA and the Govt is working on hardening the electrical grid? The govt passes regulations, but power lines are mostly corporate owned. They're not going to harden anything. The electric companies are going to load balance, which they do anyway. How do I know, because it's what I used to do for my local power company while attending college.

As for the early warning system, it's been around for some time. It's NOAA (NOAA / NWS Space Weather Prediction Center). They monitor activity and notify appropriate agencies, companies, etc. of pending spikes in radiation.
