i think it depends on what you want to do with it. The heavier it is i think you will encounter less muzzle flip and be able to perform better follow up shots however, too stiff and it might not cycle properly with lighter loads

I've tried 14, 16, 18, & 19 lbs on my XD 40 tactical and I really like the 14 or 16 lbs.

I have a pistolgear drop-in barrel with a springer precision SS guide rod. I use my XD 9 & 40 for IPSC and IPDA. I was always told at the range to try different springs and see what best suited my needs.

Try doing the same thing...

I believe the 17 pounder is standard.
