A buddy of mine is thinking of trading his Ruger 44 mag for one. Does anyone have any experience with them? This would be his first 1911 and I don't want him to get stuck with a crappy experience with his first one. Any words?

I'd give up a Ruger 44 Magnum for a Colt Anaconda in a heartbeat having shot both quite a bit...lol.

Too bad an Anaconda is about $2,000 if you can find one NIB. I'll just keep looking for the Ark of the Covenant with Indiana Jones in the warehouse ad the Smithsonian since I'm more likely to find that first.

The one I messed with a shop seem fitted well enough but the trigger was ****.

I wouldn't give up a Ruger .44 for anything.

Tell him to keep it and buy a Rock instead.
This 110%!!!
If I my memory serves me correctly, Regent is a Tisas.
My buddy has one, there not bad but id jump on a Rock over the Risas. The Tisas trigger was a bit gritty and ehh , does the 1911 platform no justice. Not to say a good fluff n buff on some internals couldn't fix it, but it still go for a rock.

Ok, if someone was dumb enough for that trade, sure.

But good luck finding that. Same goes for a Dan Wesson or a well preserved blued 29.

Because I could buy another Ruger and know the hefty bastard will be right as rain.

What's funny is the original trader wanted 100 bucks on top. My friend knows very little about guns, and was given the Ruger by his dad. No sentimental value. But he was wanting something a little more suited for home protection and occasional carry. He doesn't have the money to buy a new gun as he throws all his money at racing projects.
I told him to try and get a rock island, but so far he hasn't had any takers. Just the previously mentioned Regent and a Citadel that the owner "stripped the finish to prepare for cerakote, and did my own trigger" which I promptly told him to avoid. Maybe I'll post an ad on here for him.

Not much gun IQ, yeah, don't recommend the 1911.

Go service XD, Glock, Ruger SR series or M&P.

And stay the hell away from who ever was trying to fleece him. It a Redhawk or Blackhawk?
Well I have several 1911s and he really likes shooting that platform. Can't say I blame him.

I have a GI model Regent that is a good shooter for a $400 1911. The stainless model Regent I handled was machined and finished very crappy. No way I would trade a Super Blackhawk for one. Tell him to shop around and maybe he can find a better trade.
