I just picked up my XD 40 and the guide rod pokes out the front...maybe 1/8 inch or slightly more, with the slide fully closed..........thoughts?

Edit: to prevent confusion, it is a service model 8)

Springfield does this intentionally. Not sure of the real reason, but some have speculated it's so that on a contact shot the slide doesn't slide back and take the slide out of battery.

Sounds faulty, better get a Don's Guide Rod. Plus they look better than stock.

J/K That is the way it is supposed to be.

It is intended for close defensive shots where a perp maybe on top of you and you hvae the barrell pressed against the perp, you angle your pistol just a little and can fire it without a kaboom. This is what I have heard. It is for Point Blank Shots. I think i may have seen it on a Springfiled XD CD or something...
