I know this has nothing to do with XD's but I wanna share! Yesterday I picked up my first 'plinking' rifle.

Had X-Mas $$$ burnin' a hole and I have been looking for a decent .22 that I could upgrade later if I wanted. Went to all the local gun shops and they were either out of stock or wanted too much money. Stopped into Wally World on a hunch and found a really nice Ruger 10/22 Rifle w/ a checkered birch stock & stainless barrel. I figured, $208 bux for a little plinker/varmint killer aint so bad - so I bought it! Immediately took it over to Sportsman's Wherehouse and bought a Bushnell Sharpshooter 3-9x32 .22 rimfire scope where they mounted and bore sighted it for nuthin'. Also got a matching rifle bag for $18 & a Hot Lips 25rd. bananna clip for $19 bux.

Never thought I'd be so excited about a little .22 but I have always loved tagging cans & critters with my buddy's Marlin. The funny thing is, I already have a list of upgrades I wanna do to this puppy and I haven't even shot it yet!

Here are all my firearms/home defense weapons so far: Mossberg 835 Ulti-Mag, XD9 Sub, XD40 Service, Ruger 10/22, & Jake....my pitbull (he's really a puss but no one knows that but you guys ;))

What do you plan to do????

The thing looks great already. Nice wood, like the stainless steel look.

Ah, nuthin' too crazy...yet. Later on I plan on adding a .920 bull barrel either in stainless or carbon. Possibly add a Fajen thumbhole stock as well. I love the way those feel but they are spendy. I know I already want an extended mag release and new bolt release lever.

Thanks for the kudos!

On my Ruger 10/22 I've put in a volquartsen trigger (with overtravel adjustment), titanium hammer, polished the sear, polished the bolt, replaced the bolt stop buffer, and added the extended mag release. :) Next set of projects will be the barrel (maybe someday), but I'm pretty happy with what I've done so far. Basically its my "tinkering" gun. I get bored, see a neat little part for the inside of it, buy it, and put it all in and go to the range. Lot cheaper and more satisfying than ruining one of my handguns :). Anyway, best of luck to ya, and if you need any assistance or such with it let me know. I've had mine apart dozens of times, which isn't saying much, its a pretty simplistic rifle.

Sounds like quite a piece so far. All items I've researched but not sure if I need yet. Need to shoot a few 'bricks' of ammo first to decide what I wanna change. hehe.

Right on. Glad to hear you like yours. Haven't heard too many bad things so I'm hoping my luck is good when I get this puppy to the range!

Woooooo.....bet the local range would love me showing up with that. ;) Legal, yes, but wow would they check it out first. LOL Nice :)

And as far as the upgrades, yea, I've got a little money in it, but like I said earlier, I tinker with it, so its a piece here and a piece there :). The other part I forgot to mention is the bolt release. What it does is allows you to release the bolt (after you've locked it with that little lever on the bottom) by just pulling back on the handle and lettin her go. Very handy at the range. :) Hrm....I think I might have put trigger shims in too. Heh :)

I want to get out as soon as possible but with all this snow we're getting, I dunno when I'll get out next. Glad to see another Reno-ite on the board! Lemme know the next time you go and I'll see if I can join ya.

how do you like that light you have on the mossy? i've seen that mount and setup on the web but never ran into anyone who had used it.
I dig it. Does the job and stays outta the way...AND it's cheap! Well, compared to getting a surefire pump handle w/ the light or something like that. (if they even make one for the mossy) Nice little setup.

Dang, you stolen my idea!

Actually, been waiting for local Wallyworlds to get the stainless back in stock, it seems that they had a Dec 26 rush on the firearms counter from everyone with giftcards, about the only thing they've got left right now is blackpowder!

I refuse to give my local shops $195 for a used gun with dings when I can pay $10 more and get a brand new one! :)

Agreed. Especially when most of the shops in my area treat you like a lepper when you walk in. Like they are doing you a favor for walking in their store. Bugs the crap out of me! Of course Wally World is considered the 'Evil Empire' by most (kinda like the Microsoft of retail) but oh well. I'll still give them my ammo business and so far, they gave me the best deal I've seen on both my 10/22 and my Mossy 835 shotty.

Mine came w/ the rubber butt pad but no muzzle brake. Can you point me to a link that shows them? Do you know if they make a stainless one to match the barrel?

Thanks!
