Just went through the same thing. The cost of adding adjustable sights and a springer precision trigger job to my xdm .40 was gonna be about 400 after shipping. Decided to sell the 4.5 and get the 5.25 from Springer with the trigger job already done. 5.25 has the adjustable sights so all it needed was the trigger. Got the Bi-tone, $925 shipped to my ffl. Pretty steep but same as getting the work done on my 4.5. Don't think it'll be a "race gun" but it should do pretty damn good in idpa.
I've been dying to tell someone about how much better my XDm 40 is now since I bought a Storm Lake 357 SIG stainless 5.30" ported barrel. I was absolutely shocked at how little recoil I felt when shooting compared to the 40 cal. The 357 SIG round has been called the "most ballistically effecient round ever" and Springfield Armory has built a handgun that can handle the extra 5000 psi that the 357 SIG puts out. $165 well spent.
