Maybe
Maybe not.

What kind of race gun do you want to build? What mods would you be doing?

I'd want
cross cut slots on the slide
slide cut for Burns fast fire
full trigger job 3-3.5 lbs
threaded barrel and Springer Precision Compensator
magwell

I'm going to shoot competition (maybe)

Go think the recoil is going to be better on the 5.25 or the modded
Open gun.
What I'm asking is will my modded gun part me Back on target faster

Translation, if you want to mod the gun, save your money, and buy something other than the 5.25 :p

Just went through the same thing. The cost of adding adjustable sights and a springer precision trigger job to my xdm .40 was gonna be about 400 after shipping. Decided to sell the 4.5 and get the 5.25 from Springer with the trigger job already done. 5.25 has the adjustable sights so all it needed was the trigger. Got the Bi-tone, $925 shipped to my ffl. Pretty steep but same as getting the work done on my 4.5. Don't think it'll be a "race gun" but it should do pretty damn good in idpa.

I put a PRP drop in tigger kit in my 9mm 5.25 and I'm happy with that.
My thursday night shoot scores are getting better every week.

I have a PRP Ultimate trigger kit coming to put in the XDM40
and waiting on my Burris Fast Fire to get here, then I'll send my slide off to cross cut and cut for the red dot.

maybe next month threaded barrel and Compensator
from Springer Precision and mag well

I love shooting thought a red dot and I wont change my 5.25 to much

I've been dying to tell someone about how much better my XDm 40 is now since I bought a Storm Lake 357 SIG stainless 5.30" ported barrel. I was absolutely shocked at how little recoil I felt when shooting compared to the 40 cal. The 357 SIG round has been called the "most ballistically effecient round ever" and Springfield Armory has built a handgun that can handle the extra 5000 psi that the 357 SIG puts out. $165 well spent.
