Mag Loader

Ok so I just picked up one of the XD 9mm last night. It is the first hand gun I have owned and I didn't realize how difficult it can be to load the mags. How much easier do the mag loaders make it. The one I saw said you can load 15 rounds in 18 seconds. I know I will probably getting faster at loaded them once I know more of what I am doing, but does anyone have any recomendations on a good speed loader?

Thanks
Jim

Welcome to the site, and congrats on your XD purchase.
I, personally, don't like/use mag loaders. I can tell you that it will get easier, over time, to load your mags as the springs get some use.
Also, you may want to fully load the mags during storage. This seems to help loosen up the springs a bit.
The mag loaders are helpful if you loads dozens of mags during each outing.
If you want to work your mag springs in, go and shoot :) I kept my new 10 round mags loaded for a couple weeks and they were still very tight. Then I went to the range and loaded/shot each mag 5 or so times and the difference was very noticeable. If you can't go shooting just load and unload with your hands multiple times. They'll wear in pretty quickly.
hks loaders will not work with pearce extender grips.
i use adco super thumb.

They don't make them for the sub. I modified mine to work.
They will get easier in time but I too like my HKS. Ten bucks well spent.
Another enthusiastic vote for the HKS if you have full size mags. I shot 400 rounds today during a CCW training class. We loaded and emptied about three dozen mags each since not all were fully loaded. I wouldn't have enjoyed the session nearly as much if my thumbs had been killing me from loading all those mags manually.
What model of the HKS speed loaders do you guy's use? I dont see one listed for the XD40. Thanks I really need one these new hi cap mags are almost impossible to load.

This is the one that I just picked up. I got mine at the range for 13. But you can get one on pistol-gear.com for 9.95, so this is a great deal, and Scott is the faster shipper that I have dealt with.
I Highly recommend this if you are going to be shooting a good deal.

Hope that helps.

For my XD40 SC short mags, I used a dremel tool with a cylindrical bit (like an end mill) and ground a new slot for the shorter mag. For the one mag with the Pierce extension, I just ground a contour to accomodate. A milling machine would be ideal for those with less than steady hands but the hand-held Dremel mod works.

Basically what I did was cut a piece of alumium down to about 1/4 X 1/4 X say one inch in length. I angled the metal top and bottom to fit the mag and the bottom of the speedloader then drilled a hole and bolted it into place. I'll take a picture tomorrow and show it. The mag slips in on top of the metal and holds the mag in place.

Which one? The ST2 for glock? :?
would love to see pics and know what model number HKS speedloader you used.
Here's a pic of my 941 with the block installed at the bottom of the speedloader. If it's not a good enough pic let me know and I will try to put up a better one.

I agree...the #941 is the model number you want for the XD mags. I too had to do a little slot milling with my Dremel to allow the bottom "foot" of the mags to fully seat in the loader. Works like a charm...got mine from Pistol Gear.
