I'm looking to buy a NEW, short barreled, DA, small frame (preferably j-frame) .357 for carry/home defense. HOWEVER, I do not want one with an internal lock/safety. Recommendations???

On the LCR, once it's disengaged, you cover it up again and leave it alone. No biggie.

What about a Ruger SP101? Is that too heavy?

If you can find an older one, I know it's not a .357, but my 1988 Taurus 85 is amazing, it shoots +p well. Newer Tauruses are re a reel crap shoot on reliability.

^ It is....but if you really want to use .357 vs 38sp ammo I would choose the SP101 over the LCR. 357s in the LCR are a handful. Hard to beat the look of the SP 101.
