Bought the XD-40 Service yesterday, went to the range today. Very impressed so far. I shot 200 rounds through the gun and had no failures. I shot 50 blazer aluminum, 50 PMC Gold Line, and 100 reloads a grab bag assortment of FMJ and LRN. Gun fed and fired every single round without an issue. I did have the slide not lock back on an empty magazine once but I may have rode the slide release to cause this.

The trigger on this thing does take some getting used to. The first box of ammo I was all over the torso at 15 yds. I started to dial it in towards the end of the session and was managing to keep the shots in a semi tight little pattern, 3-4". I will master this trigger. I have been shooting my 1911's and no other handguns over the last several months and the XD trigger is nothing like that single action well tuned trigger on a 1911.

The only complaint I have is a sore trigger finger. The Glock does the same thing to my finger. I don't know if it's the safety or what but it about wore me out. Or maybe I'm just a puss and need to build a callous there. :) Good news is, my hand was no worse for the wear anyplace else after 200 rounds.

The more you shoot it, the more you will love it. As for your finger, you may be squeezing it a bit to hard. Part of the reason is because of the XDs long travel. By reducing the travel, you should be able to reduce the sore finger too.

Welcome to the XD family!

Yeah, the long travel. Then you have to let way out to reset, then once it resets, it's a fair amount of travel back to release.

How do you I reduce the travel? And how do I make the reset quicker?

Two words. Canyon Creek. Get a trigger job and that XD will forever be your favorite pistol. Ask around and you will see how awesome one of Rich's triggers really are.

Some will say you can "stone" the parts and cut springs, but I will tell you, having pulled such triggers, they don't come close.

You all think the XD has a long pull/reset? I find the trigger pull comfortable, its nothing like a Sig.. Every Sig I have shot felt like you have to pull the trigger a mile.. then wait for it to go back to reset. The XD is designed very nicely

I've got a P229 .40. Trigger sucks on that one too. But the pistol is nice overall. The XD reset is about the same as the Sig IMO.

You want to know what a good reset is, get hold of a S&W 4006TSW or any S&W pistol that is in the 5900, 4000, 4500 series. One of the full size service autos. Best reset on any handgun I've ever shot. The 15lb pull double action first shot sucks, but after that, they are marvalous. The trigger resets when you let off just a fraction and when you pull to fire the next shot there is no creep. Just a little pressure and bang!

Anyway.....I'll probably not be sending this pistol anyplace for a while. I'm just going to shoot it as is, get a couple thousand down range and see what happens.

you will learn the travel to fire and refire. you must release the trigger ever so slightly in between shots. my XD9 4" has a small click when the trigger resets. its so second nature to me now, i shoot better with it than my 1911. i can put 16 rounds (15+1) at 25 yrds as fast as i can resight my target. about 7 or 8 seconds. all kill shots to the chest area.

up close, 7 yrds. my pistol points so well. as long as my front sight is on target, i fire. 16 rounds all inside the X or 9. 3 seconds. 8)

i hope to begin some competition shooting soon so i've been practicing.

even with very high expectations, i never realized what a fine handgun i purchased that day. :D

now my other guns sit. kinda like i had a bunch of Fords & Chevys. now i have a Ferrarri. what would you drive?

Jake,

You need to tell us more than that! What do you like about it? What did you have done and are the improvements drastics or minor?

Sorry scott..

I got a trigger job, crisp, smooth pull with awsome reset.
I just ordered a xd40 tac and having it shipped to Rich next week, trigger work and maybe some other minor stuff.
