Apparently the slide is hitting the top of the chamber block...peeled the metal back.

Sorry about the text my photo editor blows. The text was for Springfield I emailed them the pics.

Anyone else notice this?

It's been gone since last thursday...this sucks...I dont know if this is due to the bent guide rod or not.

The guide rod's bent? Might be causing it, keeping the barrel pushed up and causing undue friction against the slide when it comes back after firing a round. How deep was that damage? Just surface or was it really deep? Also, were you using the stock rod or a DGR?

about a milimeter. It was factory...as soon as I had springfiled send a new rod. Only a hundred rounds at the range that day. Now I have a Dons...great clearence no problems...but the damage was done.

Bummer. Was there damage to the slide as well up underneath where it was impacting too? I'm sure SA will take care of it (from all the other posts of folks who've had warranty work done), but definitely a pain to have to send it in for work. Yet another good reason for a DGR, but the factory should have been satisfactory. Hope all goes well!

The strange thing is that I saw no damage on the slide...If you ran your finger from the back of the chamber to the front over the damage that back side was sharp.

Definetly everyone should get a Dons and SA needs to look at this stock guide rod problem.

Though I cant say for sure if thats what caused it...Ajames has the original guide rod for his article.

This thread and a review of all the raving comments concerning Don’s guide rod. I just got back from the XD gear site and my DGR is on its way. Pay Pal is a wonderful thing. After looking at the XD gear site I went with the package deal of a guide rod and spring. I went with the #20 spring, right in the middle of what came stock and what is most popular. Don’t know if I made a good choice or not. I didn’t find the recoil to be a problem with the stock spring. Lord willing and the creek don’t rise I should have my rod and spring in a couple of days. I mustered enough will power to not make comments about Don’s rods…

Hello to all, this is my first post. I wish it wasn't about this topic.I've had
my xd9(service) for two weeks, went to the range today ran about 200 rounds through the gun,no problems. During the usual cleaning ,i saw a bent guide rod and the same marks on the barrel as posted by cekxd40.
Has anyone else had this problem? I hope Springfield Armory, has good
customer service

It was actually digging into the barrel or just scratching the top. Scratching the top is normal

ok.. now im concerned.. im trying to catch up on some posts that i havent had the chance to read.. and after reading this one i stripped mine down and sure enough.. i can feel the raise in thefront of the block too.. (where the slide meets) and the funny thing is.. i only had about 700rds. through it before i bought a DGR and spring combo from pistol-gear.com my question is.. did yours affect your accuracy.. or just irritate the hell outa you cause your gun was damaged.. i personally and the latter... will this become a greater problem.. or should i just leave it be.. and let it work it self out since i have the DGR and spring set now?

Hmm, I will check mine and report later but I do not think I have this problem. BTW, do you guys make sure the top of the barrel and the inside of the slide is lubed when you reassemble?

about the lube.... most definetly.. i try and drop lube on anything i touch and wipe it down with a "lube cloth" as well.. not heavily but just enough to get the parts "greased up" light coats everywhere.. .. also i was just cleaning it again today and ran my fingers (inside the cloth) down the barrel.. and notced that my barrel is swollen about a half inch from the the muzzle.. normal?.. i dont know... but it didnt affect my shooting today.. if yours is the same.. i wont worry.. but im such a .. well. drunk.. for even trying to make sense... but anyways.. yeah... im pretty meticulous (sp) about my firearms.. especially being as this is my first pistol......(ending rambling.... going to bed... blah blah blah... yadda yadda yadaa.. ahhhhhhh zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz)
