I want to buy a fiber optic front sight for my tactical model. I have experience with the Hi Viz sight that I installed on my Kimber, but wanted to get some input on the model from Dawson before making my final selection. Your opinion on the quality and duribility of both would be appreciated.

you can get a really skinny front with the dawson. They are both well made but different animals. The Hi-viz and willialms sights are general type sights and the Dawson is more for compitition. The dawson front sight is really tall so it may not fit in your holster where the williams and hi-viz will since they replicate a standard sight.

Does this mean that the Dawson will change the point of impact?

I've got the Williams Firesight, and I love em. Come to the next IDPA match at MSA, you can see the Dawson's and Williams.

The Dawson front is not taller than the stock nor the Hi-Viz, unless you get the Adjustable set. If you get just the Dawson front, the height of the sight is the same, so you POA and POI are the same.

Old School was right I just looked at a package of just the front sight and they are smaller......Although now I have a back up sight that I have to adjust my rear on if I repleace the front. P/N : 021-007

See I dont know everything old school....schooled me:). The tall front will fit alot of the kydex holsters the problem comes mostly with leather concealment holsters.

Pistol-Gear is showing this pic with the stand alone front site, it looks pretty high to me. Is that the wrong pic?

That is a Dawson stock photo. The front in the pic is the one that is included with the adjustable rear. I will take a pic with the standard front and update the website. I am not aware of any holster that won't allow either option.

The taller one is used with the adjustable rear so its easy to adjust POI. It would depend on your version of XD and how tall your rear sight is.

The preformance factor comes with the skinnyness of the sight so its better for accuracy.

I have the HiViz on my XDs and my buddy has the Dawson on his Glock 34.

I prefer the HiViz because the dot's so much larger. The Dawson fiber optic dot is tiny by comparison, but I guess you can get used to either one. Either is better than a black or white-dot sight.

Can someone explain to me why you need adjustable sights on a combat pistol you use between 5-20 yards? What am I missing?
