Hi all. I've been thinking about an AR for a looong time, and, in light of yesterday/today, I really want to make sure I have the abillity to have an AR in the future despite possible gun bans.

That means, I need to buy a lower reciever. I know a lot of people around me are in this position as well, so is there a decent, somewhat cheap reciever I can purchase now? I don't have 600+ for a whole piece, but I'd like to be able to start building it now, of course starting with the piece that will be legislated most likely.

Help! Are there websites I can order from or do I need to just go down to my discount gun sales and pick up whatever they have?

you can do either, just whatever you can get the best deal on. Narrow it down to a couple of manufact you want and do a google search to see what kind of deals you can get. I imagine some of the online places will be on backorder shortly and or course prices are going up.

forgot to mention, I have been looking at getting a lower or so for myself, will probably end up spending around the neighborhood of $130 or more. Also seems like the concensus here is that Stag and CMMG are a couple you couldnt really go wrong with.

You're talking about a stripped lower, right? It looks like Discount Gun Sales (which is local to me) has stripped Stag lowers for around 130 or so...

Would it be easier to get a full lower and pay more money? Are the availability of other parts going to be a problem after a gun ban?

Any links to good lowers would be great.

The lower receiver or just "lower" is considered the firearm by law, however any AWB might include bans on all the parts, so whereas the lower is what is considered the firearm, it might not be the only thing regulated.

I would pick up any lower, frankly. I was in your position a few weeks ago and did extensive research, finally ending up ordering a Stag Model 2. The prices, I've noticed have jumped over night on most websites.

You can search this forum for manufacturers, but most lowers are manufauctured by the same few companies and simply stamped/branded by other companies. I recommend Stag, CMMG, etc.

Online inventories are somewhat non-reliable, so I would just order direct. For example -- here's where to order the Stag stripped lower ($125 msrp from Stag compared to about $105 going rate at 3rd party online dealers):

Stag Arms

Hope that helped a bit,
Ross

The lowers are going to be the only problem getting a hold of, everything else is just parts. Don't worry about anything but the lowers. Pretty much everyone is sold out of everything as far as lowers and Magul PMag magazines.

If you intend to order online then make sure you call. Stores are being hit up hard by the last minute buying frenzy going on. There are places that I have seen in the last few days that had stuff in stock. I'll see if I can dig them up again.

There may be some here, I am seeing higher prices than I have ever seen on stripped lowers.
Lower Receivers : ColdWarShooters.net, The Internet's Black Rifle Specialist

maybe here:
AR15Pro.com: Bushmaster Lower, Semi-automatic, 223 Remington, Stripp

maybe here:
A R 15 LOWER RECEIVERS : Zen Cart!, The Art of E-commerce

Get on it with google and keep calling places.
Good Luck.

So, I went over to my local west coast armory shop, and they had a CMMG complete lower for $220. I did that. It seemed like a no brainer to me. They had stag stripped lowers for $120, or the full CMMG lower for $220...
