So one year ago today I brought home my xd9 subcompact. I had been eyeing up this baby for a while. I was shopping for my first pistol with my dad (he just bought his first pistol too, at 59 years old!--a pt111) and didn't really know what I wanted. I knew 10 rounds, semi automatic, and something easy to conceal because I was planning on getting my permit soon. Eyeing up the glock 26, the a salesman told me a lot of guys were switching from glock to xd, the grip angle, easy to take down, huge slide rails you didn't have to worry about. Plus the indicators. I didn't know enough about handguns to understand him all, but I liked how it looked -- rugged.

I shopped around a bit and found it for a great deal... elsewhere it had been $495, $465... I got it for $395 plus fees from Keifer's Gun Shop in Walnutport, PA... around $430 out the door with ammo.

I have probably looked at my pistol about 280 of the past 366 days. It has been sent back to the shop 2 times, and I am going to send it in again. The first time, the front sight was drifting easily, and it went in for 14 days total. Next, at about 3 1/2 months old, it went back again after I blew up a hydrashock and it bounced around in the slide (luck was with me that night). Just a checkup and she was fine.

So far I've put about 1000 rounds through it, had trijicons put on (a lamp blew and that's why it's going back to SA again), and has had some pretty good finish wear... every edge is shiny bright in the once-black finish. I'm considering having them Amory-Kote her under warranty, but like wrinkles I like that she shows her age (though she's aged quickly).

I love this pistol. After discovering which ammo she likes and how to make it work the best for me, I am still just as satisfied as the day I brought it home. I am confident in almost every area with this pistol, and still enjoy spending time carrying it around.

Thanks for reminiscing with me.

I will definitely be taking it to the range a lot more often this year. She's growing nicely into my palm and needs to be fed lots of ammo to stay strong.
