i know there are many cleaning threads, but i need some info. I usally clen my xd40 everytime i come home for the range with outers cleaning solvent and oil, it has worked well, no proplems and no rust. i just got the blue wonder kit from pistol-gear that comes with BW Armadillo, BW Gun Cleaner, and BW Disotec XFR. I want to start using this, but if i use the bw stuff everytime i go to the range(once a week) this stuff doesn't seem like it will last. any thoughts on this, alternate stuff, don't clean it every time, use a combination of the products? need to know. thanks for the help, sorry about the long thread

i like to only use the blue wonder stuff when i need to keep it super protected for extended periods of time.....like the armadillo on the slide
everything else gets cleaned with Break-Free CLP
Just my opinion

I've been using Ed's Red in my ultrasonic cleaner and that works well. But I gotta admit, after trying the Poly Dunk-It from Cylinder and Slide, I think I've been won over. You get this stuff in a bucket and drop the entire gun in the solution. If you are cleaning guns with wood grips - REMOVE THEM FIRST.
I field strip it and drop the parts in. Let it sit for about 10 minutes, let it drain over the bucket, wipe it down, blow the extra solution out of the slide with an air gun or canned air and swab the barrel. Lube the rails and barrel with your favorite oil and it's done. I've been impressed with the way this stuff cuts the foiling in the barrel. Ed's Red doesn't really address that.

I use a silicone cloth on the outside of mine for a little extra protection. I've been using Ed's Red since last May and now Dunk-It and have never had any rust on any of my guns, expecially the XD which seems to be a problem for some people.

The small bucket is about $35 including shipping and it will last until it turns into a thick sludge. You can probably fit 3 or 4 XD size guns in at a time. The $35 bucket would easily clean 150 pistols.

I also bought the "Kit" as well a couple months ago. The armadillo will last you a while. I use it liberally. The cleaner will last a decent while as well. However, the dicotec, you can run through that really quickly if you are not carefull. You only need to use very little. I use one drop on a patch to oil the inside of the barrel after cleaning and another drop to lube the rest of the barrel.

I have never used the armadillo, but I do use the Disotec oil, and the Cleaning Gel... After three or four months, I finally went through my first tube of oil, still havn't used up a whole tube of the gel yet... and like you, I clean after every use. You don't have to use very much of either to get your gun sparkling clean and well lubed.
