Ok so the wife gave me the go ahead to buy a mosin. I am going to order it from Aimsurplus only because none of my local dealers have M44's or can get them. I want to know if any of you guys have ordered a rifle from Aimsurplus and is it worth getting the hand pick option for an extra 10 bucks. thanks for all the help guys.

Are you doing the hand picking? Have you checked to find a 'used' one on backpage.com or something?

What are they running these days? I wish I had gotten one years ago.

M44's or 91/30's?
Mostly 91/30s...
I've seen a few hex barreled ones from time to time but they usually are around 150-200.
Some are in horrible condition, most are because folks buy them, shoot them, get kicked by the buttplate and decide it's not as much fun as they thought....
I almost bit on the crate deal as it was complete with all the accessories, just couldn't figure out how I was going to slip that one by the missus.;)

Yeah, you can get a 91/30 for $150 anywhere. The M44's are a bit more in demand, I thought for sure they'd dry up after Barry's sanctions against Russia. But then maybe they are being imported from another country?

Clearly not 150 everywhere.

Along with the 91/30s pretty much laying around evertywhere in my area, I've also noticed a lot more higher end panic buys now hitting the market. Or maybe they were "tacticool" until the bills came do? Either way, I see some that are asking retail for "slighhtly used, only 500 rounds or 4-5 mags run thru them"..I'm holding out until the pressure is on and the prices come more in line with 2nd owner prices.
Been wanting to get my hands on a couple more Mosins and convert them over to the Archangel stocks just for giggles and grins....

I have a 91/30 already and want the M44 carbine. the one i am looking at is 219 and no transfer fee at the local FFL. Yes i have looked on backpage and could not find a suitable m44 in my area.

If the bore/rifling are good I'd buy it. Some may gripe cause back in the 90's they could have bought them for two glass Coke bottles and a pair of Zubas, but that isn't the case today. I peeked at the Aim site, you might spring for the newer production but it's your call.

I may get the new production. What is the benefit of getting the laminated stock?

Just nicer looking wood for a show piece. If it was done by Century I wouldn't pay extra. Again I'd be more concerned about the condition of the metal and the rifling/bore, you can refinish the stock yourself if it's something you're worried about. Me, I like my milsurp a bit rough
