I was just in a local pawn shop on a whim and saw a Remington 700 series, possibly an XCR, chambered in .300 RUM with a Nikon scope on it.

Looks to be in great shape. It has a black stock with stainless barrel, and brushed stainless scope. Just what I have been wanting cosmeticly. I am not sure of the specific model of scope or the rifle it self, and so that would affect the value of course.

Now, I really do not need a .300RUM powered rifle but I was thinking a NEW 700 base model with stainless/black in this chamber would be around $800.

Is that close?

They are asking $599. I was thinking about bringing $400 cash and sticking tough to that.

What do you all think?

Depending on the model of the rifle and scope $599 is a fair deal and $400 would most likely be a no go. Given that its a .300 RUM, it has probably had barely any rounds shot through it, previous owner probably learned to be afraid of it.
