Ok, so I have been bitten by the 1911 bug and I have not even got my first one home yet. I found another one, this one I tried researching and can find little to nothing about so...here I am again. This one is on auction with buy it now of $350.00 having about 250rds thru it. It is a SAM Elite 1911 in .45, anyone know anything about these? Price is right I think but not knowing anything about these I figured I would come to those who know more than I...this gun, from the pics, is cosmetically near perfect, and is beautiful...I know that don't mean much for the interanal parts but says that it has been taken care of. Guy says he has too many and is thining out his collection...:-?...did not think you could have TOO many guns but ok I guess...lol

Thanks guys, appreciate all the help so far...

Oh, BTW, think I am going to pick up the M-11 Standard from one of our site sponsors, Brigade Gun Leather, price is right and looks to be a damn fine CCW holster! Thanks for the help with this decision too...:D

never heard of em

google is your friend, you would be overpaying by a decent margin

read below ll is right, I say if you want a bargain 5' 1911 citadel at 460 is the way to go. Can't get more for your money in the 1911 market then that. if you don't have 460... honestly its worth to save the extra 40 considering the ria tac is 420.

did not think you could have TOO many guns

Sure you can own 50 High point pistols, and what would you have???
How would that work out for you?

The lowest end 1911 I would purchase would be an RIA, the tactical version at that.

Bargain guns are just that, bargains.

Stick to the better known manufacturers..
Better to spend a bit more on a one good gun, than to have 4 or 5 cheap ones..
Beware of Star, Llama, SAM Elite (seriously), and other bottom end guns.

You asked for opinions..;)

Exactly.

Quality, not quantity.

Thats all I needed to know, thanks guys! I am still waiting for my first 1911 to come home...went with the RIA 1911a1, should have it home Friday...feels like a good solid gun and figured for the price it was a good entry point to the 1911 market.

Thanks again guys, look forward to lots of learning from you on my new bug...the 1911..

Will do, I appreciate it! I can see why it is the most popular, very nice holster...not to mention it came highly recomended from a couple of friends as well...

Also here is a photo of a Rock Island pistol in a Brigade GunLeather M-5 outside waistband holster I built awhile ago for a customer.

Man that is sexy!! Can anyone say "holster porn"? LOL

Well, decided that the 1911 is a little bigger than I want to tote around all day everyday at this point. As none of my revolvers are suited for CC (barrels are all 6" or longer), they are not an option...decided that the XDM with 5" barrel is a little long and akward as is the PT101, and the Ruger is sold...but was too "bulky" anyway. Made the purchase of a S&W M&P .40 compact and this will be my carry gun of choice. Will be test loading it with Winchester PDX 1 ammo (undecided on weight at this point) and see how it does when the gun gets here. Troy at Brigade Gun Leather is putting together my M-11 standard IWB holster, I might add that if you are looking for one I strongly recommend his services as they are very FINE hand made holsters.

Any other suggestions on ammo for the compact .40 for an everyday CC weapon? I did search the forum as best that I could and found lots of info but one can never have too much info on this subject.

EDIT: Also, what are your thoughts on Winchester Ranger Talon ammo of the 165gr variety?

Thanks guys!

When it comes to self defense ammo, you need to pick what your gun likes, not what others recommend. There are many top ammunition manufacturers and your not likely going to notice too much of a difference.

But just make sure to test at least a box or two of whatever you're going to use. I've seen people with the exact same pistol and one likes a certain SD ammo and another doesn't.

Don't take someone else's word for it, your life may depend on it.

That being said, I use PDX-1 or Corbon for carry. Depending on the gun.

I carried PDX-1 in my 9mm XD and plan to carry the Winchester Ranger T (talons) in my Ultra Carry but like was recommended run it through your gun and see what it likes.
