First post here on this forum; I just found you guy earlier today. I picked up a Springfield XD-40 service model earlier this week when Gander Mountain had them on sale with the extra magazine and paddle holster (unfortunately the holster is back order).
Well I gave my new XD-40 the work our Thursday night at the local indoor range. I gave three different rounds a try Remington 155 grain HP, CCI Blazer Brass 165 grain FMJ, and Sellier and Bellot 180 grain FMJ. It ate them all without complaint. I even load all three types mixed in a single magazine and it did just fine with the mixed ammo. I put 170 rounds through it and not one jam, mis-feed or failure to fire.
It shoots fairly accurate, not quite as good as I can do with my 6 ½ inch 357 magnum Blackhawk at the same range but pretty close. It think it had more to due with how much steadier I was with the longer Blackhawk then the actual accuracy of the XD. But after that many rounds I'm sure shell shock was setting in and my forearm was getting a little tired too. I think shooting over a rest it will be even more accurate than I saw shooting free hand at the range.
It also barks really loud, I ended up with plugs and shotgun ear muffs on, my ear muffs alone weren't enough. It makes my 357 magnum seem very tame in the report department. In fact I thought I had accidentally load 38 specials in the 357 magnum when I switched guns. The 155 grain 40 S&W were really hot (500ft-lbs compared to about 400 ft-lbs for the 180 grain) and there was a very visible fireball around the gun and my hands when you fire the lighter bullets.
The forum looks good and I hope to be around for a bit
Thanks
