First Malfunction XDM9

I bought my XDm 9mm used last July. No idea what the round count was then but the guy I bought it from told me "probably 500 rounds." I've been shooting it for IDPA ever since. I personally have 4000 rounds thru it and I experienced my first malfunction at a match on Saturday. I was firing around the left side of a barricade and I had a stovepipe. In retrospect; I am surprised that I didn't just stare at it dumbfounded... but I tap/racked it like I trained, and finished the stage. Still w/o too bad of a time. So 4000 rounds, and 1 failure. And the failure could have been due to the rounds bouncing off the barricade, or me limp wristing it while I was trying to fire around the barricade. Anyway, I love my XDm. It always fires when I pull the trigger. Even when the Striker Retaining Pin cracked and started coming up out of the slide. It still fired until I fixed it.

Even the so called "Glock Perfection" has a hiccup or 2 every now and then, the XD's are bound to have one eventually.

Could still be user error if you were laying hands on the slide or rubbing it on the barricade. Easy to do in the heat of the moment...

(because it couldn't have been the gun, right? ;))
Thanks for the range report. I hope all is well.

I completely agree. No idea what caused it, and the post was more aimed at my disbelief that it did happen. Like I said... 4000 rounds thru and this is the first malfunction.

Love my XDm. It shoots like butter now.
Mmmm butter. That is strange about the stovepipe. It could have been the gun but more than likely was ammo or something you did as others have said. My XDm has shot 1550 rounds so far without a complaint. However there was my first batch of 150 reloads that I screwed up on that had it stovepipe about 1 per magazine. Of course that was my screw up and the ammo was barely strong enough to be considered a mousefart load much less a full power one.
I've only put 1000 rounds or so through my XD 9. I've only had 1 stove pipe...and my wife was firing it. I'm fairly certain she was limp wristing it. It's never malfunctioned on me. And only that once on her until she corrected herself.

Similar story for me. My XDM 9 has had maybe 3 stove pipes when my wife was firing and it was her first time at the range. It's never malfunctioned for me. She has gotten much better about limp wristing.
