Extractor Q? and Disappointment with SA Customer Service

2133 Views 19 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  Arkansas
Is the extractor for an XD 9 the same as an XD 40?

I have gone round and round with Dawn Oleson at SA. I understand that she may be new or she may not be that smart, but she has messed up my order 3 times!!! It is plainly written in the emails, but she still can't get it right. We have both been nice in our emails, but I am getting frustrated with her! :x

Anyway, I ordered a new extractor for my XD 40 and she sent me one for an XD 9, and I get a FTF or two out of every mag now. I don't know if I may need to polish the new one or I have the wrong one. I am assumming they are the same for the 9 and 40.

I have a lot of patience with people, but this getting ridiculous - as I've stated to her. The last time I ordered something from SA, they just sent me what I ordered. If I were to post the email string you'd be surprised at this one!

Sorry for venting, but are the extractors the same?

Thanks
J

as far as I know they are the same between the 9 and 40, you may want to ask rich at canyon creek, but I think this topic was discussed before and they are the same extractor.
Okay, let me get this straight. You are bitching that they sent you a XD9 extractor, yet you dont know if they are the same or different, yet you are pissed off at them????

Also let me get this straight, you are doing your own gunsmithing on the gun, and then you are pissed off that it isnt functioning right, and thus it is SA's fault that they sent you an extractor that you dont know is the same or not?

Just checking the logic of this problem and how it is SA's fault

Man, I sure didn't mean to make it sound like that. Although, after reading my post I can sure see how it may seem that way. My apologies for not being clear. Sorry for offending you NEXD.

Let me try to clarify... I am not bitching because she sent me an XD 9 extractor. My question was, are they the same? If they are not, then I have a right to bitch. I tried to order an extractor and a recoil spring for my XD40. It took at least six emails from her, and my replies, to get that straight. I don't know if the extractors are the same or not, but that is why I asked this knowledgeable forum. I feel pretty certain that they are the same, but I just wanted to make sure. Again, I am just wondering so I'll know whether or not to be upset about this, in addition to having to email 6+ times to order two parts. I'm sorry, but if 12 emails to order 2 parts is not worth a little venting, I don't know what is. Sorry if I offended anybody else.

As far as doing my own smithing, NEXD, replacing the extractor is not what I would consider smithing. Recrowning or threading my barrel, any kind of grinding, drilling, tapping or screwing would be what I'd consider smithing. According to Dawn, this is a drop in part, so even you could do it yourself, NEXD. If I was ever going to have any real smithing done to my gun, I'd take it to my semi-local, reputable gunsmith.

Sorry for offending you NEXD. I should have been more clear in stating that we had correspondence 12 times (7 emails from me and 6 from her) to order two parts for a black OD Green XD 40. That is where I should have made this more logical.

Thanks

I wouldnt even say "set off" It does take alot to get me worked up ;)
12 e-mails is too many.
but check this out for poor customer service.
In Jan. I call Beretta L/E customer service to order a Locking piece for a mod. 96 DAO. (the locking piece had broken while officer was at the range.) I was told that the parts had been re-designed to correct this fault, but that they were out of stock and it would be 1 week delay in getting one. gave them my credit card info. I also told them that this was a duty weapon .
well Feb. came and still no part. I called back and talked with the same man. I was told that the Army was taking all the parts they could make.
well fast forward to April, i called back and talked with the same man again. he stated that they did not have a record of my order. he said that the parts were in stock, so i told him to send them to me, he needed my credit card info again. well to finish i finally received the parts and sure as hell i checked my credit card statements and i was charged twice once in Jan. and once in April. I am now trying to get a refund.
Now 12 e-mails don't seem so bad.
Oh by the way the part was around $ 50.00 plus shipping. for a part they new was a factory defect.
I sure like SA life time warrenty.
guess which pistols the department will buy from now on?

The extractor is the same for the 9mm and .40. Breechface is also the same.

Extractors require some tuning to get it right. Rarely can you just 'drop in' a part and have it function 100%.

You need a little more tension on it. Have a smith install it if you don't know what you are doing.

I can't say you can blame SA as they sent you what you asked for. They didn't install it.

I agree. I have tuned the extractor, now it operates perfectly. I am not blaming SA for that. In fact, I know now that the extractors are the same. My complaint is that I still haven't received the recoil spring!!! I expect it to be here this week. Now we are at 14+ emails.

I think SA is awesome and their CS is almost the best in the industry. I partially just wanted to warn anybody that may come across the same person that I did. Moreover, I am not mad at her. I am sure she is new and there is a steep learning curve fo any job. But, I would appreciate the heads-up from anybody else here - that was a large reason for me posting this (and sometimes you/I just need to vent!).

Thanks

I don't know if the extractors are the same or not, but that is why I asked this knowledgeable forum
This is not something you should have to get from any internet forum, including this one. The manufacturer should be able and willing to tell you the correct part number and application for the part you are trying to order- and the part they are shipping you.

I told the manufacturer exactly the part I needed. They sent me a part that was labeled for a XD 9. After an email to them, they verified this was the correct part as did this forum. Regardless of what you say, this forum IS a great place to verify info like that. This forum was right in line with SA said. Forums are a good double check. I would not custom build a gun based upon an internet forum, but I'd sure seek their input. With the run around I got from this chick (not blaming SA, just her), you have to double check things like this because my contact with the manufacturer left a little to be desired with in this situation.

If you told me to send you an extractor and a factory recoil spring that you had ordered before for your black slide/OD Green frame XD 40, wouldn't you expect me to send it to you? It should not take 14+ emails. If I sent you something suspect, wouldn't you ask this forum for input since you had already had unsatisfactory dealings with the factory? That's what I did. Sorry if it was a bad idea.

Let me try this again...

It's not a bad idea to ask, here at least. Just keep in mind that the internet is loaded with sick bastards who would purposely feed you faulty information, and then laugh their asses off when you suffered because you listened to them.

The manufacturer of ANY product should always be the best source of info for correct, OEM parts.

Oh... So, I'm an ass. It seems we're on the same page. Please pardon my defensiveness. I think the quotation in your signature would apply to me here.

I have been defending a movement by a local utility in front of 200+ people today - that's why I'm a little defensive.

Please accept my apologies.
No problem, Arky. Please accept mine if I came off sounding like an ass in the first place- it sure wasn't intentional if I did.
Man, Man, Man...

I finally received the package I've been so anxiously awaiting (my new recoil spring and guide rod assembly!!! So I thought...)

I received the extractor last week and should have received the spring/guide rod combo too, but I just chalked this up to a little administrative mishap @ SA. They sent the new part without charging me shipping which I thought was pretty dang nice of them.

I only had one problem - It was NOT the factory recoil spring and guide rod I had ordered!!!!! Can you believe that??? It was a two piece threaded guide rod (w.o spring) thing I have never seen. It looked like some sort of special guide rod assembly for a 1911. It this what comes stock in the Tac?

After many, many emails to Dawn, I finally asked her to fwd this one to her supervisor and asked her to have him/her call me. I explained that I was not mad (I was really irate, but I want to keep this whole thing cordial), and I understand that things like this happen. I just want to get the two parts I tried to order nearly two weeks ago.

OK, I'm venting again - sorry. But, a word to the wise: If you have contact with Dawn, ASK FOR SOMEBDY ELSE!!!
