im looking to swap out ambi-safety on emp for right handed only. my questions are... does this take same safety as all 1911's and is there any way to match to current black treatment(Armory Kote)? Just looking to see if anyone knows of any options. I would prefer something to buy and fit and install myself. thanx guys

I used this one..
It is an Ed Brown part.

1911 AUTO TACTICAL SAFETY - Brownells

Also installed a Harrison Long Smooth Faced EMP Trigger in Black.

1911 AUTO EXTREME SERVICE TRIGGER - Brownells

The trigger is an EMP part, the safety is a regular 1911 part.
Installed both myself.
Used info in this forum thread for the safety fitting..
Talk about your EMP here! - Page 7 - 1911Forum

Post # 174, just follow mhillsing23's instructions.
File a very little bit at a time.
Mine clicks in and out just like the factory ambi did, with no slop.

- Take the mainspring housing (MSH), thumb safety (TS), and grip safety out.
- Reinstall the original TS, and the MSH, but not the grip safety.
- Examine how the original TS interacts with the sear.
- Take the original TS out and compare it to the new TS.
- Note the angle on the sear stud.
- Begin to file the new TS with the same angle.
- File. Check. File. Check. File. Check. File. Check. Etc.
- You should be able to get the new TS in place before it is actually done being fitted.
- Once you can get it into place, but it is still hard to engage, keep filing, but go very slow.
- Use a marker to mark the TS and see where it is rubbing on the sear.
- Keep in mind that the TS will probably break in a bit. I left mine stiff, but after several dozen engagements/disengagements it is just right now

Original ambi..

Ed Brown safety with a Harrison trigger.

BTW these are the the 15 re-engineered parts in the EMP:
slide
frame
left grip panel
right grip panel
firing pin
firing pin spring
extractor
plunger tube
plunger spring
trigger
magazine tube
magazine follower
magazine spring
magazine base plate
magazine base pad

Good luck..........1LL

You're more than welcome.
My EMP is my favorite carry pistol of all time.

BTW, I stole that parts list from Quack on the other forum..;)

I like the angle of the Ed Brown.
Doesn't ride as high as the stock ambi did.
Mine was very black (before the nickel-teflon refinish).

I really like the round butt.
The stock grip corner dug into my palm.
I guess I have chubby palms...:shock::D;)

Good luck..1LL

im sure you saw this from the other forum, but for those who havent this was john harrison's gift to daughter for wedding present. I personally like the reverse bitone and front strap checkering. I really with SA would have done the front strap checkering intially, because to get it done now you have to pay for checkering and then pay to refinish, and that adds up quick. but hopefully in a couple years i can get round butt, front checkering & refinish in black. probably wont go as far as refinishing frame in silver and slide in black, but it sure does look sharp.
