Efk dragon conversion barrels

I was just wondering if anyone has input on the reliability of the EFK Dragon 9mm conversion barrels. I currently have an XDM in 40 S&W and I think that having the ability to switch out with 9mm would be nice (ammo is cheaper and I can get really cheap brass to reload). Specifically, has anyone tried their ported 9mm conversion barrel? I think that would be sweet! Thanks guys.

Lots have used them with great success. The breech face diameter difference will give a small level of issues, which is why that caliber conversion should not be used for critical applications.

If you already reload, I don't understand the need for the conversion. The cost to reload 9mm and .40 is very nearly identical - yes?
Anyone know of a company that supplies a conversion barrel from .40 to 9mm for the XDm 3.8" ?
John, what do you mean by small issues, WTF, WTE,? Just wondering. Anyways, as far as reloading I can basically get 9mm brass for free rather than having to buy the .40 brass. So I thought it would help curb the training costs. Also... I will have to admit that I'd like to have an excuse to try out the ported barrel. I hear that they are pretty sweet.

Rafman, EFK dragon has a conversion barrel from .40 to 9mm for the XDM 3.8 "coming out soon." I shot them an email and they're hoping to get those out in July... we'll see how that goes I guess because I have a 3.8 as well.

The larger breech face means that the extractor has less of a grip on the round may bobble it leading to "issues". May fail to extract, fail to eject, etc.

Probably 1-4 per 100. Just enough to be annoying -- IF you have any issues at all. Some folks run 9mm out of a .40 with out any issues at all. Just depends on tolerance stacks and wear patterns.

I've seen once fired .40 brass online selling for 35 bucks per 1000. Personally, I'd go that direction.
Raf i have the storm lake conversion form my 3.8 it is the 4.5 inch barrel but i have had no issues with it. It just sticks out the end of the slide a little bit no biggy. Have not had any issues with FTF or FTE.
gettle70, van you post a pic of your pistol with the 4.5in barrel? I'm interested to see how that looks. Thanks.

here is a couple pics with the 4.5 inch barrel with the 3.8. I never got around to having it shortened a shop said he would cut it down and recrown it for 35 bucks.

that doesn't look bad at all. Did you order yours directly from storm lake?... I wonder if they have one with a ported barrel.
i really do not remember where i ordered it from sorry but i know it was not directly from them.

EFKfiredragon is great to deal with. I buy my barrels directly from them. If you order a ported barrel from them, they even through in a 16# spring for free. They shoot great & fit great. No gunsmithing needed. They are true drop in.
I have been looking at the EFK Fire Dragon barrels for my XDM Compact 40SW, to go to a 4.5" barrel 40SW from the stock 3.8"

Their web site does not explain the pros/cons of their ported barrels.

I see that the slotted cuts only on the top of the barrel, will hep prevent barrel rise. Since they slant up and forward, I'm not sure about the effect on recoil. EFK Fire Dragon ported barrels for Springfield XDSUB/XDS/XDT/XDM

Does anyone know how much this will reduce bullet velocity at the muzzle versus a 4.5" unported barrel?
