I doubt the XD series, as a whole, will get phased out…although the Mod2–with the exception of the XDS M2–is gone. Just the standard XD series is made under the “defend your legacy” line.

I severely doubt there will be an Echelon in any other caliber than 9mm, as well.
If the handgun rosters go away in regulated states I can definitely see the XD line up go away.

I would say I have odd sized hands. I have large palms but my fingers are some what short for my palms. Im able to shoot just as well if not better with out using my pinky. Iv always shoot my XDSC's better than the Service models.

The new duty-size Springfield Armory Echelon is nice, but I think I will wait for a G19-size 15rd 4" barrel version. I did a 1 minute MS Paint mock up. It is not perfect at the muzzle end and doesn't claim to be dimensionally perfect, just eyeballing it. Echelon Full-size on top and Echelon Compact mock up below. I think a Compact version would sell 5-10 times as much as the current model. What do you think?

Nice. I would have made the grip shorter also. 13 rounds with a flush mag.

As someone who works for an FFL dealer and is part of the Springfield Pro Deal Program, I'll say this:

The only XDM Elite gun on the list, now, is the 10mm version...just below the Echelon. Before the Echelon was put on the list, the full gambit of the XDM Elites were on the list. Make of that what you will.

As for the Echelon coming in different calibers, I'm betting there's at least a 10mm version in the future, as well as different 9mm sizes to drop the COG into.

I concur. Do you think the Hellcat series will continue if compact Echelon models are produced? I believe it will because the Hellcat is quite different and much slimmer than the Echelon with solid Hellcat reviews and sales numbers.

Oh this thread is amazing. I'm getting back to XDTalk after tap-a-talk did it's thing. This is cool, unrelenting cool!!!
Great! But which of the 3 sizes do you think would sell the best and which one would you personally buy?
I think the Glock 19 size 15rd Compact would sell best, but I would opt for the Subcompact for carry, might end up with both. The current version is okay, but my Glock 45 (9mm) fits that role sufficiently.

Also, is this model putting the writing on the wall for the termination of the XD and XD/M?

And if you like this thread, my thread topics on John Moses Browning carry and Future-proof 5.56 are much more popular.

I'd go SubCompact -- it'd be "homies" with my XD Sub that I purchased in 2008.

Thinking of the XD/XDm going away -- hard to think about but the pistol market is changing and there's not much interest in a grip safety from the folks I know/shoot with.

The Hellcat Pro is great if you want a slimmer option.
