Just got my XML light for my XD-40 SC. I'm wondering if you guys practice with the light mounted, or do you keep it off?

Can a lot of shooting shock the light too much and wreck it?

The lights are designed to be hardened against recoil, so shooting your XD with the light mounted should be ok. But everything wears out. The more you shoot with the light on, the more use it is getting and that will accelerate wear to some degree.

However, if you carry your XD, or keep it ready, with the light mounted then you should practice with the light mounted sometimes. You should also practice with the light on and the range lights off from time to time, so you know what it's like.

Agreed - I usually fire a couple mags with the XML on when I got to the range (and also with it off, but with my Surefire 6P in hand) and have never had a problem with the bulbs on either one of them.
