Does this white whale exist? Can you find a decent scope while on a budget?!?

I was just given an old Enfield no.4 mk 1 and unfortunately it was sporterized and the barrel was cut so restoring it to its original beauty isnt feasible....so instead im planning on throwing a scope and possibly a bipod on it. The problem is that since the rifle is only worth about 200 bucks, probably just 100-150 in its current state, I can't justify putting a 200-500 dollar scope on it.....I've researched scopes and found some konus and nikko sterlings that i like but id like some opinions on their quality....ALSO if anyone has any other suggestions I would GREATLY appreciate it!!!

Hard to beat SWFA Super Sniper scopes. They were used by the military for a while and are supposed to compete with 1k+ scopes. I got mine for 399. Its a fixed 10x but it is a nice scope. They have others as well. When I was doing my research, I could not find a bad word about them. SWFA also has a sample section of trade in/Demo scopes. I got a Leupold MK4 MR/T 1.5-5 off the sample list for 699. At the time they were going from 9 to 1100. It was in brand new condition. Great people to deal with.

I have this one on my Mauser
SWFA SS 10x42 Tactical 30mm Riflescope

Here is their sample list
Quality optics and accessories from Leupold, Bushnell, Burris, Nikon and more!

best bang for your buck

this is a thread from the optics section on $100-$300 scopes
Nikon Prostaff was mentioned several times in this thread, and it is the scope that I have bought (three so far, two variable power & one fixed). I've been happy with the performance and durability. Clear, bright, holds zero. I'm sure the high-priced ones are better, but the Prostaff line works just fine for my budget.

Prostaff 4-12x40 is on my short list of scopes for up grading the optic on my rifle

Just ordered a Millet TRS-1 4-16x50 today for $286 and burris Xtreme tactical 30mm med rings for $49. If you get the scope only it comes out to around $303 that includes the $16ish S&H to texas.

Nikon Prostaff is a good scope, I got one on sale from Midway for $99. I like it, but it doesn't compare to my Bushnell Elite.

Those 200-300 dollar scopes are nice.....but im not looking to put THAT much money into it since the rifle itself isnt worth that much.....im just looking for something that can be accurate out to 400....maybe 500 yards thats around 100 dollars.....does this product exist???

If you can afford it, get a decent scope. Even if it’s a cheap gun, it’s a good investment and can be used on other projects. There are a lot of good scopes in the 2-400 range.

Great advice. besides, then there's an excuse to buy a rifle that deserves the scope. the scopes I'm looking at are in the 180-350 dollar range. down to 4 scopes, maybe 5

My vote would be for the Vortex. Check out their VIP warranty. Ive heard good things about them. I wanted the Viper PST. I ended up with a Leupold MR/T because the PST had not come out yet. I got a chance to look at one at a 3 gun match and really liked it.

I have a barska huntmaster pro on my axis .308. Great scope for only 70 bucks. I shot my best group with it which was 4 shots at 100 yds .397" hole. I'd buy it again in a heartbeat.

I got my Burris pretty cheap when that model was discontinued. I think it was about $120 for my 2-7x
