Ever since the assault ban was lifted, I have been wanting a "wonder nine" -- a 15+ rounder to keep in my glove box.

At first, I thought about converting my Sig P226-40 to a 9mm with a Barsto conversion barrel. But I was discouraged when I took a close look at the extractor. I knew that the extractor was built for 40/357 rounds, and the fit was loose for 9mm. I just couldn't rely on the conversion for self-defense.

Next, I thought of Glock. I don't own one and never fired one, so I was curious what all the fuss was about. Certainly, the G17, G19 and G34 have great reputations.

So, I asked to see a few at the gun store this week. Problem was, they weren't very ergonomic. I just didn't like the way they felt. The store also had some XDs, and I loved the way they felt in my hand. Great balance, and fit my hand perfectly. I thought the grip safety was an improvement over the GLock set up. I also loved the trigger - reminded me of my HK P7. I noticed that the trigger on the rental XD was even smoother than stock, which led me to believe that the trigger gets better with use.

I started researching on the internet, and found this board, as well as numerous discussions on other boards. I liked what I read. People love their XDs. I researched the price, and found I could get one for ~$400 + shipping/transfer fees.

I called around Houston, and found a promotional offer at Gander Mountain for a 4" black XD-9 with three 15-round mags and an XDGear fobus-style holster for $469 + tax, and no waiting :D

So, I bought the gun, and took it straight to Top Gun indoor range in Houston. I ran 100 rounds of UMC 115 round nose, and 9 rounds of Ranger T 147 through the gun.

WOW!! No failures of any kind, very soft shooting, feels great in my hand, points naturally, quick to regain the target for follow up, and very accurate.

If I had one complaint, I wish the trigger reset faster. Other than that, this little 9mm has captured both my fancy and a place in my glove box.

Welcome to the board and XD family. My story is similar, went shopping fopr a Glock and came home with an XD-40, (after 3 day waiting period). Loved the gun so much went out and bought a 2nd one for my significant other. both are wonderful, several thousand rounds through them and NEVER!! a misfieed, misfire or any other failure. Upgraded one to Dawson fiber optic sights and Don's rod w 22# spring. Will eventually do the same to the other. Welcome aboard.

Welcome to the forum. Before you chunk it into the glove box, make sure to get some rust protection on it. Especially where you're at with all the humudity.

What do you recommend for rust protection?

Does Gunkote protect against rust?

Thanks, Rooster. Makes me feel special. :)

Like I said, I did some research on Gun Broker and Guns America. I feel the price I paid for the package I got was fair, given the fact I took the gun home today as opposed to 10 days from now.

Here are some ads for the package I got:

$520

Now, if I missed out on some fire sale, then I missed out. What can I say. Still love the gun.
