After finishing an XM177E2 I moved on to an MK18. Now it’s time for an M4A1 SOPMOD Block 2.

A few caveats. Yes it’ll be heavy. Yes it’ll be expensive. Not gonna post prices because most of this stuff needs to be found second hand. In no particular order let’s start with the upper. (My RIS II still hasn’t arrived)

Colt upper receiver (M4 ramps)
Colt SOCOM profile 14.5” barrel (for an FSP build)
Colt 14.5” M4 profile barrel (for a non FSP)
Colt parkerized BCG
FDE Daniel Defense M4A1 RIS II rail (with or without the FSP cutout depending on what route you’re going)
Eotech 553 SU-231/PEQ
Elcan Spectre SU
Surefire 4 prong (or SF3P)
Knights Armament taupe front sight
Knights Armament (or Matech) rear sight
CQD front sling mount
Tango Down Mk46 foregrip in FDE
Surefire Scout (952v or other)
Standard Colt CH or a PRI Gas Buster

Few things to note: I’m doing a non FSP build but using a SOCOM barrel because they’re crazy accurate and I’m the one building it. Guess that’s only one thing to note. I’ll throw a bonus note in someplace else.

Next week I’ll move on to the lower.

Pinned and welded the barrel will exceed the 16” requirement.

I love it. Even went all out and got the dual end cap in case I destroy the tape switch.

I’d rather my wife see a lifetimes worth of my browser history than the cumulative cost for doing these.

I'm glad I haven't gone down the rabbit hole of clone builds...

...mostly because I can' afford it....but if I could...

Yeah it’s a little maddening. Sights, optic, upper and BCG, barrel,FH, CH and the RIS is probably in the 2k neighborhood. Certainly not cost effective. But, it’s like therapy for me.

The MK18 was worse because it involved 2 stamps.

Lè Colt SOCOM barrel. My other one shoots sub MOA with 77gr Black Hills. Amazing for a 14.5” chrome lined battle rifle.

My M4A1 RIS showed up. I looked for a few months finding a NIB dark FDE. Some of the newer shades look gold.

Daniel Defense follows the TDP and assembles them using a Geissele reaction rod and torquing the barrel nut to 50lb/ft. I used my Reaction Rod for the flash hider and a BEV Block for assembly. It currently is sitting on a registered lower until I can get to the smith and have him pin/weld the 3 prong.

Voilà lè clone

Love the Haley Strategic light mount... I have one myself.... just wish the dragonfly was pointing the other direction... Yes, I'm borderline OCD or CDO (have to put the lettters of the acronym in order, LOL).

So after a lot of time hunting parts. A lot of money buying said parts then some more time assembling these parts I have a gun. I did acquire a Colt M4A1 lower (for an unreasonable sum of money) however until I run 1000 or so rounds through it I’m gonna leave it on a registered lower in case I need to get the gas block off. Next I think I’ll do an MK12.
