I just got a new AK today with wood furniture. It looks kinda bad because it is very dirty.

What is the best method of simply cleaning the furniture? I don't want to refinish the stock, just clean it up a little.

Thanks!

I think you gotta find out what finish is on there first.

On my sks, I searched around a bit and the original finish was just boiled linseed oil, so I cleaned the stock with some acetone, and then once that was dry, rubbed two coats of boiled linseed oil back into the wood.

On my mosin, the stock was shellac, so I used a mixture of 50/50 boiled linseed oil and mineral spirits, it acted like a cleaner rather than a new finish.

but your mileage may vary :)

A good median would be just to use some de-greeser and then remioil or something of that nature. If you are not sure of the finish anyhow.
