Need opinions on caliber for lever action rifle and revolver that share ammo;for Texas Whitetail Deer. I already have a scoped rifle for wide open spaces, but looking for something for closer range open sight shoots.

I chose the .44mag in this poll.

I have marlin and winchester lever rifles but both are in .30-30
I know you're wanting something you can share ammo with in a sidearm..I'd go .44mag in that case. Not sure how well that round performs in brushy areas though. Maybe some of those .44mag leverevolution rounds Hornady makes would turn it into a whole new beast like it did the 30-30.

357 magnum can also shot 38 special ammo. Cheap for practice or even shooting snakes!!!

I've shot dozens of deer with that .44 magnum. At distances of 100 yards or so it works as well as anything else I have seen.

Great topic!

I recently have been thinking about the same thing. After a little research, I decided to go to with .44 mag. even though I already have revo's in .357 mag.

I had my dealer order me an awesome single action Ruger Super Blackhawk 4 5/8" bbl., it should be here any day now. I also want a Marlin 1894 Cowboy model with octagonal bbl. to compliment the the fine Ruger.

These will be my first .44's and after purchasing a few boxes of ammo, I think this is finally the push I need to get into reloading. :)

You'll definately get that push when you fire off that factory ammo with the 4 5/8" barrel. I have pachmyr's on my .41mag 4 5/8" barrel and will still end up cutting my trigger finger on the trigger guard when I shoot the Federal 250gr Cast Cores through it.

In my opinion you can't get much better than a Marlin .44 mag lever gun and a ruger blackhawk.
Thanks, I was lucky enough to win a few bucks playing poker at the casino last Friday and wanted to get something really worth while. When I called my dealer he said his distributors had only one left. I had to jump on it.

With all this Obamanination talk I wanted to buy something really solid that I could hand down to my kids one day, (when I have kids);)

Beside how cool will it be to tell them I bought that old single action playing poker:)
