Greetings my good friends,

It was a cloudy, rainy day here in the upper Midwest but I did not let that put a damper on my fun. I made my way out to the newer of the Fletcher Arms facilities for some practice and some fun. Now that I'm one of the big kids I can take the bench off my lane and practice with my holster. I just have to wear this lanyard on my back so the employees know who I think I am.

The one disadvantage is that you don't have as much space for your kit. The staff has these little TV trays for your gear. Today I shot 100 rounds of WWB 124 grn Nato.

Yes, I busted out my timer and I was able to use it a bit. I began with a cold 10-10-10 drill as usual. I thought I had timed it between the other shooters but the guy next to me jumped into the end of my string. No biggie. I just used the 11th shot on my timer for the total time. In the video, after I get it posted, you'll see one of the splits (8-9) is only .15 seconds. The rest were between .6 and .8 seconds. Otherwise it was a pretty lousy drill. I did get two in the X ring, two in the 10 ring, two in the 9 ring, but the rest landed on the moon.

Then I practiced a live fire dot torture drill at 5 yards.

I know it's not very far away. Those circles still look pretty small to these old eyes.

Five shots in the #1 dot, slow fire: I got three in.

For the #2 dot: draw, one shot (x5). I guess you could say I got three in again, barely. Then again, maybe line breaks don't count in this drill.

Next, draw, 1 on 3, 1 on 4 (x4).

Since shooting this drill live is harder than with my laser, I decided to tape over everything. Here's dot #5, draw, five shots strong hand only. I had two good hits.

For #6 and #7: draw, 2 on 6, 2 on 7 (x4). I seemed to shoot 7 a lot better than 6.

Here's #8: from ready, five shots weak hand only. For me, this doesn't suck too bad.

For the last two: draw, 1 on 9, speed reload, 1 on 10 (x3). Again, I seemed to shoot the right dot (#10) better than #9.

The range had quieted down a bit by now so I put out a full size silhouette for some quick draw live fire at seven yards. This was my first shot. Not bad.

The timer got me at 1.55 seconds. Ha! I am the 147th fastest gun in the upper Midwest.

I did a total of five timed quick draws. In order they were 1.55s, 1.51s, 1.48s, 1.39s, and the last shoulder hit was 1.34s.

I saved three bullets for a Failure to Stop drill. First shot 1.69s, second shot 2.22s, head shot 3.18s.

I marked the FtS shots and took a picture for posterity.

Now it's time for some fun! I brought along my new range toy, a ProMag 32 round mag. I think it looks mean.

I sent the reactive 12x18 silhouette out to 10 yards and dumped half of this 32 round magazine on it. Cool!

Then I sent the target out to 25 yards, took a little more time, but still had lousy results. Drat.

I'm happy to report that the magazine worked flawlessly this first time, no feed issues, and I even had slide lock on empty. After this I had a little more fun with 50 rounds through my P22 on this target but it was nothing to write home about. I'll save you my embarrassment.

Next Wednesday I'll be taking a drawing clinic that "will focus on presenting our weapons from the holster while emphasizing defensive accuracy and perceived penalties of misses." I'm hoping to get some instructions and practice tips that will help me be little faster and a little more accurate. Maybe this old noob can learn some new tricks.

I'm glad you guys came along today. Thanks for putting up with me!

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

Hey 1.5 sec is good in my book. Congratulations on 147th place I'm sure your trophy is in the mail 😆. Looks like you had a blast. That 32 round mag looks cool. Dang it Cliff you were suppose to grab your crotch and thrust your hips as you shoot 😂. That range looks neat.

Hi guys!

Great Fun!!
Yeah, a little too much fun maybe. I've decided to get back to fundamentals and do some real marksmanship practice for my next couple of range trips. I think I'll even leave my timer at home. ;)

I hope you got the reference to Frank Gallop's song, "The Ballad of Irving". :ROFLMAO: Irving was the 142nd fastest gun in the West. I hope I never have to go up against him. :D

As for the video, I forgot my red bandana. Let me see what I can do. :giggle:
