I picked up a 9mm SC a couple weeks ago and was wondering if the .40 barrel would work in it as well or is the internal design different?

(would have bought a 40SC but you can't pass up a new 9 SC for 280 bucks)

Welp, just got the news I was wanting to hear. the 9mm SC and the .40 SC are the same frame/slide and yes, there should be a .40 barrel available in March for the 9mm. Talked to Frank over at EFK and he said they should have them then.

Frank is working on them. Because the service and tactical barrels are different then the XDSC (more than the length), he needs to re-tool. I have been telling him there is a demand out there. I hope this is the case! :)

something sounds wrong here. I still don't think you'd be able to upgrade a 9mm to a .40. Don't get me wrong, I'd love it and would buy one... just seems off a bit.

If I understand correctly the 9mm barrel is thicker to fit the slide. So if the frame is identical, this doesn't seem unreasonable. If the slide were different, there would be no need to have a thicker barrel in 9mm.

Seems like if anyone had (or had access to) both a 9mm and a .40 SC, it would be evident if it would work. Or at least we could know if there were any difference in the frame and slide. Seems pretty easy to take some measurements.

A call to SA would be mandatory, but the question would not be "can I do it?"....the question would have to be "is there a reason why I can't do it, and what is that reason?".

The first question is closed ended. They can just say "no". The second question is open ended and requires an explanation. Certainly if they had a logical explanation, then I would take the "no" seriously. A "no" to the first question gives no information and leave us wondering. And knowing no more than we know without even asking.

It would seem if one works than the other would as well.

Why can't a tactical or service 9mm go up? (I know it cannot...I just don't know why). Is there a different slide? Different frame? Anyone know exactly what the specific difference is that prevents the barrel switch?

Peace,
D.

Crap!! :? I was getting excited about this then I started doing some measuring. The barrel diameters of the .40 service and 9mm sc are the same. :D The diameter of a 9mm tactical barrel is 0.06 less. O.K. no problem. BUT! the breach face of the 9mm sc is 0.40, the breach face of the .40cal is 0.43. Crap, crap, crap.................. :x You see my point. A .40 S&W case will not fit into the breach face of the 9mm sc..............

So we're back to square one? OMG I am so confused!

On pre-hacked xdtalk there was a discussion where someone noticed that the SC 9mm barrel was strangely thicker than on the 4" and 5" pistols. So then we all wondered if maybe the XD9 SC and XD40 SC frames and slides were perhaps identical to save costs.

hmm, from previous discussions with Frank, it was going to be a replacement .40 calliber barrel for the 9mm SC. Hope it wasn't a misunderstanding. That would be like telling your son you got him a go kart for xmas but then saying it doesn't have an engine.
