Is a buffer tube a buffer tube? We are talking mil-spec here. Or does one company make a better one? Such as a Stag vs. LMT.

The VLTOR is 5-position, milspec diameter. IIRC 'regular' milspec is 6-position, but I could be wrong on this as I've only used VLTOR on carbines.

Proper name is receiver extension ;)

LMT are nice, they have a dry film lubricant on them, same as a USGI aluminum mag. So if you want a black one choose another brand. Stag (CMT) probably makes them for many different ARs. Vltor have their emblem on the rear, nice touch. The Armalite brand is cheaper than the others, the skimp on the type of aluminum used.
