The rep at the NRA convention in Houston told me they should be in the dealers hands in late August.RTM2031 said:Springfield will be manufacturing a Micro Model in .45 GAP. The firearm will be called the, "Defender". I have read good reviews, one just recently in American Rifleman. There isn't much info out there yet as to when it will be available.
They're talking about the xd, I posted a link to the smallest .45 that springfield currently produced for reference.Verm said:Are we talking about the 1911 style Defender or the .45gap XD SubCompact?
Two completely diffferent guns there.
I was referring to the XD SC model.
I disagree. There's a big difference in the XD line of pistols and 1911's. Glock didn't seem to have any problem with selling .45ACP or GAP for that matter. I just don't see people looking at the XD and 1911 and trying to choose one. I believe it's a totally different area of the market.Ed Ely said:It will be a tough decision for all when it comes to the smaller
SA offerings.
I am torn between the Micro and Ultra Compact in .45ACP.
The Micro has a excellent following and there is a line around
the corner block to get the Ultra Compact.
My point is, that the XD in a sub compact chambered in
45GAP is going to have a tough row to hoe. It is my opinion
that SA is not going to shoot themselves in the foot by
offering up something that will not have a great market
appeal, even though the XD following is fantastic, myself
included.

I don't really look at it as competing with themselves, but more as creating a broader market. Chevy offers a Trailblazer and a Tahoe (along with many other models) so they can cross sell. You go into the lot to look at the Tahoe and say "thats a little too big for what I need" so the salesman shows you the Trailblazer. If you check out Springfields 1911s and decide "I want something plastic", instead of going over to Glock you have the option of the XD. In any case, Springfield would love to have the problem of people deciding between XD or 1911 subcompact 45s...either way they make a sale.Ed Ely said:The point that I did not get across is that Glock is not
competing with themselves and Springfield is. Plastic
vs. metal (.45ACP or .45GAP).

I cannot see how they can make a conversion barrel in 45GAP to fitMisFire said:I posted this awhile back.
Maybe EFK will change their minds.

Their answer:
