I'm movin from Jersey to CT in about a week and I was wondering if anyone could give me feedback regarding wait times for handgun purchases vs. long guns and other stuff. Also, is it true that I have to take a handgun permit class inorder to transport my pistol into the state to my new house???? I guess I'll have to keep it at my parents till I take a class if its true? If you have a permit in one state it should be transferable to another...this succks.

You need to get the ball rolling as it takes ca. 8 weeks to get a CT Handgun permit. Am a nonresident and they were right on time with my permit. It's cheap, only $35.00 and fairly straight forward paperwork. The SLFU {Special License and Firearms Unit of the State Police} actually answers their phones too!

Advise being very, very carefull however, with so-called "Assault Weapons", as there are some rifles on their "felony" list that should not be there like the highly dangerous "Colt AR-15 & Sporter" or "Fabrique Nationale FN/FAL, FN/LAR, or FN/FNC".

It's not all bad, at least you can own a "machine gun" if you want one!

Don't live in CT but travel to the Blue Trail Range in Wallingford about once per month in the summer.

It's a huge range with a complete Gun Shop.

They should be able to square you away:
