I took apart my Colt Mark IV 80 Series 380 Government model (Mustang) to clean after shooting. I must have pulled the trigger while the slide was off the receiver and the hammer strut and spring dislodged and is now protruding behind the hammer. I can’t operate (cock the hammer). I have watched the proper disassembly and assembly videos online, but they do not address the problem directly.

What I want to know is the proper sequence to fix the problem once I have taken the stock grips off the frame. I don’t want to disassemble the gun further than I have to fix the problem.

Are there any special tools required??

Would appreciate any help that you can provide.

Thank you for your help.

Try a video for replacing the MSH... a couple that I have watched do a pretty extensive frame disassembly starting with the MSH, grip safety, hammer, strut, etc.
Might be a little different for a Mustang 380, but should get you started on the path.
