I got notice that my upper finally shipped from CMMG (1 in 7 twist), so I need to get some ammo. Living in NY, good gun shows don't come along often so I'm basically stuck with Gander Mountain, Dick's Sporting Goods and Wal-Mart. I'm looking the cheapest best quality plinking (55gr) ammo available at one of these stores. I believe my choices are limited, and WOLF is not an option, I don't like the stuff. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

For HD I'm going with 75gr Horandy TAP.

Care to share some good places to purchase cheap ammo online? I haven't looked for .223 or 5.56 but for .45ACP, after shipping, I can actually buy BlazerBrass cheaper at Wal-Mart! I don't have any problems purchasing stuff online. Thanks!

Would recommend heavier bullets, at least 69 Grns, considering your barrel has 1:7 twist ratio. I have a sig 556 and I get the tightest group with PPU 75 Grn Match ammo - more than half the price of Hornady and cheaper than Remingtons from Wally World.

Thanks tarugs, I'll keep that in mind. I've never shot an AR, so I'll be trying out a number of different loads once I get my upper and it warms up enough to go out and shoot. I got the 1:7 specifically so I could shoot the heavier loads if needed. I'm going to check out the prices at Wally World and Gander Mtn tonight after work.

As I mentioned, I'm new to AR's. I've got a 1:7 so I my AR can handle the higher grain bullet weights. Wondering which of these you guys would buy and if the prices are good:

PPU Prvi Partizan .223 69gr JHPBT Match Ammo - $435/1000
PPU Prvi Partizan .223 75gr JHP Match Ammo - $419/1000
PPU Prvi Partizan .223 62gr JHPBT - $369/1000 (Note: NOT Match Grade)
FXM193C Federal 5.56(M193) 55gr FMJBT - $396.00/1000

Also, what should I expect to pay for shipping?

Thanks!

For plinking and playing around, I would go with whats cheapest.

That's what I'd like to do, but cheapest isn't always the best. Being an AR newb I figured I'd ask. Obviously most of it will be for the range, but if SHTF I want to have good stuff lying around. Also, if the better HD loads are 75gr TAP, I should be shooting and sighting in my weapon with something comperable, shouldn't I? Thanks!

Midway seels BH stuff pretty cheap when they have it in stock. I much prefer the BH 75gr load (same bullet) to the 'black box' .233 TAP since it doesn't have that crappy coating all over the case that loves to muck up a chamber.

Now if you can get some 'redbox' 5.56 75gr TAP it is loaded hotter and it is in a proper plain brass case - a fantastic SD load!
