My SAR-1 can get pretty hot after a couple of mags. I'm curious whether there are any options to allow the AK to either cool down faster or to keep the gas block/handguard cooler longer.

Normally, I use a mag hold grip. But when I'm moving the AK around (i.e from case to the range bench or whatever) I find that I often burn myself on these very hot parts.

any ideas?

In all seriousness though, the first time I went out with an ak and shot 2 or 3 mags fairly quick..I too touched some no no spot and it was everything just shy of skin melting off. I learned not to touch that area when it's hot. Sorta goes with any other firearm, after prolonged firing there is always some area that gets really hot. Just have to learn to avoid touching it.
