So, we were at the range yesterday and some jacka.. ( really nice guy in all seriousness) let us shoot his Nighthawk.

Now my wife wants a 9mm 1911 to sit between her sig p238 and para blk ops .45.

We wont spend that kind of money, but if you were to buy a 9mm 1911 in the 700 to 1k range give or take, what would it be?

It's not $700 but I WANT a Nighthawk Night Owl. My LGS says one is coming and my name is first on the list.

I wouldn't. Seriously your asking for a hassle at that price point. So my answer a XDs 4.0

Safety is a momentary choice. Prior performance and certification are completely irrelevant.

Springfield Range Officer 9mm would be a good choice in that price range.

Well, here is good news and bad news.

Bad she didnt buy a 9mm 1911.

Good, she bought a sig p320 c and still wants a 9mm 1911, but wants to save for a REALLY nice one, but it will be awhile.

That sig has a pretty nice stock trigger and is nice to shoot, i am more impressed than i thought i would be. And once barrels and modular equip starts being more widely available, it can be turned into about anything.

We went out to try a bunch of 1911's and that nighthawk spoiled her. Its always nice when the wife wants more guns (because it makes it easier for ME to ger more!)

Heres the obligatory photo:

I usually recommend the Dan Wesson Pointman 9. It won't set you back nearly as much as a nighthawk, but it has incredible fit and finish. They run around 1500 new. It will be tight. Check out snaphooks review of his PM9. I love mine too.
And sweet Sig! Everyone should own at least one P series.

Contact George at Gunslingers about a 9mm 1911 that you "really" want. Then thank me later. ;)

And for clarity the statement of your price range "you will have problems" is 100% not true. There is plenty of great 9mm 1911's in that range.

With that being said the best 9mm 1911 without spending 2-5k will be a Dan Wesson. The lock up will be as tight, if not close, to as tight as 1911's twice its cost. Guardian or Pointman. Buy once and forget about it.

Show her one. If you get it in her hands, then it's a done deal. You won't be able to find anything to complain about. It is a gorgeous gun. Mine is pretty well used, but never even a hiccup, and looks stunning in person.

I've become a DW fanboy over time. I did have a guardian, but she is long gone. Currently own a Pm9 and a Pm3. Looking into getting a wheel gun soon.

Springfield Range Officer in 9mm is a great gun for the money. It is my favorite 1911. I also have a Kimber Stainless Target II in 9mm which is at the top of your price range. Both very accurate and a pleasure to shoot.

What caliber?

If you want to stick with 9mm you could have something like this:

What you're looking at above would be in the price range of the kind of person who buys Dan Wesson 1911s. The S&W 986 is a 7-shot 9mm. It's a $1,000 revolver with $300 of C-More optics sitting atop it. And I would dare to say it's more accurate than a PM9. It's the most accurate centerfire gun I have & I'm not sure any 1911 at any price could top its accuracy.

By the way, with a PM3?
