What is a guide line on how much one needs to flare 45 ACP case.

If you can see the flare, it's enough. The bullet should just sit in the top of the case. If it looks like a bell, it's too much. For lead bullets, plated too, you may want just a bit more than what you would use for jacketed to prevent shaving.

Good advice.......a little dab will do ya,if you get too much and use a Lee crimp die then it's a pita to crimp. Just enough to get the bullet started and if you start to see shavings then loosen it up a little:D

Just test, measure, and re-test. Like stated, use just enough to allow the bullet to sit on top of the case and drop in just a hair.

You bell just enough to get the bullet to sit in the case. You crimp just enough to remove the bell.
