.40 S&W Defensive Round .. Cor-Bon problems!

1871 Views 10 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  DJTHEMAC
This may be because it's new and I have only fired 120 rounds through my XD40 Service , but here is my experience.

First 50 rounds, Remmy 180gr UMC .. 3 FTF (second to last round every time)
Next 50 rounds, WBB 180gr flawless (will use this from now on!)
Last 20 rounds, Cor-Bon 165 gr JHP .. 3 FTF!! Am I doing something wrong? This is my first handgun , I wasn't 'limp-wristed' .. the first round took a slight nudge of the slide to enter the chamber fully , then the slide stuck a couple more times.. Should I try something different for a defensive round? Any suggestions would help.. at $15 a box I don't want to try every HP on the market !

Try shooting a few hundred rounds of whatever before you make a decision. Fifty rounds won't tell you squat.
My .40 XD would FTF with reloads when it was new after 2 or 3 hundred rounds it shoots everything I've put in it with out a problem. I even put in a 9mm round mixed in with the .40s in my mag and it fed without a problem. Polish the feed ramp check your mag lips and give it a good breaking in.
Corbon's JHPs have a pretty wide opening with sharp edges. They may be catching on the feed ramp. Are you using the stock guiderod/recoil spring?
I had the Corbon's catch with the factory spring but with a #22 and Don's rod it cleared right up. (more umph from the spring to push the round up into the chamber)
All stock, I was considering that exact spring though.. thanks.
i had some ftf's when i was at a requalification, that's always fun. i'm good about keeping my xd clean, but was still having probs with the feed ramp. i had to send it back to springfield, they polished the feed ramp, all's better in the world now.

Is that a good thing to be doing?
Nope. I did it by accident. I will never just grab a handfull of bullets from a box that I've dropped and load them in my mags again. There were a few 9mm bullets from another box I had dropped a few months before.
newb,

Try keeping your magazines loaded for about a week before going to the range. I had some problems with the new mags at first. The XD-40 service was my first also. I had some initial problems, but after about 300 rounds not one problem.

Did the 9mm rounds fire??
