4.0 barrel on 3.3... for suppressor?

So while reading James' review of the new XDS 4.0, I couldn't help but notice this picture of the new 4.0 barrel in the 3.3:

Is that usable? If so, couldn't you have a smith lathe threads on it for a suppressor? Seems like a quick solution for those looking to get a threaded barrel XDS.

i had to do that while the folks from Springfield were not looking. I knew people had asked about it so I wanted to try it. It seemed like it would work, but I was only able to hand cycle it. Lock up seemed ok even at the end of the barrel. What I forgot to check was how thick the barrel was.

Barrel thickness could be a problem, but I have a feeling that since it's based off a 45, it's probably enough.
What, are you James Bond? Who suppresses a tiny gun like this? If you get a suppressor you should pick a better host weapon. My XDs fills its role as a bug very nicely, and I will leave my suppressors on my night stand guns.

 My thoughts exactly. Suppress a pocket pistol?....Ha! I love this forum.

What does the physical size of the gun have to do with suppression?

If you think people want to suppress an XDS to CCW with then you're dumb.

Hello reduced sound for range shooting.

You sound like Nancy Pelosi. People who own pistol suppressors, that's who. I think it's pretty unlikely that people are going out buying an xd-s as their first host for a pistol can, but people who own pistol cans want as many hosts as possible to use their suppressors on.

Just FWIW, a lot of people suppress Walther P22's too and they're in the same classification to me as a little pocket pistol.
The new Remington R51 is also available with a threaded barrel from the factory...

Must be just for James Bond wannabes tho...
So, has anyone tried this yet? I was looking at the 4.0 today, but the gun shop owner was watching too close for me to swap barrels. If someone is successful and it works well, I'd run a threaded barrel.
Hickok 45's review of the XDS 4.0 states that he and his buddy swapped slides from the 3.3 and the 4.0 and they lined up and functioned as normal. Link is below.

I don't believe that they mixed a 4" barrel with a 3" slide. The barrel has a taper to it; it's a bigger diameter toward the muzzle to lock up tighter in the slide for accuracy. Further away from the muzzle the diameter is smaller to let the barrel tilt as it unlocks.
I would also wonder if there was enough meat on the .45ACP bbl itself to thread and keep integrity.

If you look at a close-up of the two barrels, the taper starts in the same location. So the 4.0 barrel might function in the 3.3 slide.
I'm gonna give it a go. My SIL has the 4.0 I can try it on. Thoughts?
The will be those with something negative to post, no matter what the subject. They ALWAYS
know better than you. That said, I would love to have a threaded 4" barrel to run a can on! I'd be the envy of the range...

As I recall someone on the Walther forums rigged their PPS with a suppressor. Not sure how that turned out for them but it looked sweet.

Rico, how did it go?
