Before today, I was sure that a XD .357 barrel would just drop in a XD .40. I have done this to several Sigs and Glocks with no problems. Today I picked up a .40 cal service model at my favorite gun shop and asked if he had any .357 barrels for sale. The owner told me that you could not swap barrels on XDs to change from .40 to .357. I told his he was full of crap. The store owner called Springfield and I was advised by them that I would have to use a Barsto “conversion barrel”. I know they make conversion barrels to convert .40/.357s to 9mm and think the Springfield customer rep was just confused.

While in the store, I swapped barrels between the .40 and .357 and everything seemed fine. Of course, I did not load or fire the pistol. What’s the scoop?

While Barsto and EFK offer barrels to convert .40S&W to .357Sig, I do not believe that I have seen Springfield offer up such a conversion.

You can do it, but Springfield doesn't sell a conversion barrel.

So a factory .357 barrel will not work in the .40 gun?

They flat out lied to me on the phone. I asked if a factory .357 barrel would work in a XD40 and they said “No.”. No problem, I will just get an aftermarket .357 tube for it. Thanks for the responses.

I have to assume that while in the gun shop, the two
barrels that you interchanged from SA were the service
models. After market barrels can be bought for the
service model SA XD40 in 357SIG and 9mm bull barrel.

Also, a .40 S&W barrel can be bought for the SA XD357.
Longer barrels can be bought for the SA XD service model
in after market for those who want one that is threaded or
one that is ported. These latter barrels are not the same
as those that fit the tactical model. If ordered, please
specify.

The SA XD Tacticals also can be fitted out in after market
barrels. Be aware that the tactical after markets will not
fit the service models. There is a difference.

Of course there is not an after market barrel in 357SIG for
the SA XD40SC. In fact, SA does not even produce an
SA XD357SIGSC. I wish to heck they would!

Yes, I also like the idea of complete interchangeability
of barrels made by the manufacturer, but, this is not the
case with SA. They do not sell barrels as spare parts
for replacement.

Mine don't. That is why I posted the info above.

All my after markets are the Bar-Sto barrels.

The differences are very apparent to the naked
eye on mine. l do not own any EFK aftermarket.

Maybe these differences are worth looking into.

How about more posters on the subject.
