Recently completed the IDPA Safety Officer training and was informed that my xd factory mag carrier is illegal. IDPA rules state the the carrier must hold the mag within 90 to 110 degrees of vertical. This is to prevent USPSA gamers from using paralell mag carriers which cannot be concealed for street carry. The XD factory mag carrier angles mags to a greater angle so are illegal.

I have been using the xd factory mag carriers for matches for more than a year and no SO has DQed me for violation. Use a different gun for sanctioned matches. Will be looking for an after market mag carrier. Don't think the new XD M mag carriers will meet the criteria either.

    Bummer:(

The stock mag pouches and not very good. I (and most ever USPSA shooter I know) use the same type of pouches for Production and IDPA. Safariland or Bladetech single pouches work very well.

    I didn't understand this statement?
"which cannot be concealed for street carry"?

I carry a "parallel" mag carrier daily, if by that you mean "horizontal".

FWIW, I shoot IPSC every friday and been meaning to shoot IDPA when it comes up but haven't yet.

I do it because it is a fun gun game. I don't really care about my score and don't really worry about equipment guidelines.

You seem to be in the same boat I am. If you are using the factory mag carriers, you probably aren't too worried about the speed component.

As long as the club takes your money and lets you shoot and you aren't shooting competitively, I would say just use what you have.

He is correct on the rules. That said, you are better off getting a real mag pouch if you are going to play the game. Get something that is smooth and adjustable.

I recently just started IDPA. At my first match I asked the Match Director if my XD(M) mag carrier was legal, he said it was indeed.
I looked thru the rule book, and the rule states 10 degrees of vertical (80-100 degrees to the ground) position on the belt.

I broke out the protractor to see what the angles are on the XD carrier, and the do seem to be 80 degrees and 100 degrees.

Here's a link to the rule book on the official site:
    http://www.idpa.com/Documents/IDPARuleBook2005.pdf

The magazine criteria are on pages 36 and 37

I've CrazyGlued 2 mags end to end, and no SO has flagged me yet. I'm also thinking about using a silencer, so he wouldn't know if I'd fired 2 or 3 on that Limited Vickers COF, either.... ;)

This is comming from someone who has never been to one of thier matches but...

Is it just me, or does it seam like the IDPA rule commitee just likes the sound of thier own voice or the look of thier own type in this case. how do all these equipment limitation help make IDPA be a sport "geared toward the new or average shooter, yet is fun". If they want "shooting sport that simulates self-defense scenarios and real life encounters" they would just have the person walk by the judges in street clothing (that would have to be the defined aspect of it), and DQ anyone whos gear is noticable.

IDPA is just a game. Sometimes they forget that.

I still shoot it occasionally in my area, but generally avoid it due to the real lack of safety amongst the local gang.

I never understood some of the rules in idpa, this mag carrier for a cdp gun will work but not this one. even if the damn thing is one i use for carry.
