I just had a question, I accidentally bought some + P hollow point ammo and my store has a no return policy. Can the xd45 safely shoot the +P and will it cause any wear and tear to my gun? Thanks in advance guys.

No problem, fire away. Many guys use +P ammo, I use Win Ranger +P as my carry ammo.

It will seriously wear the barrel. I do not recommend. I will buy for 1/2 price and shoot it for you.

My XD 45 has fired quite a few 230 grain XTP's at well over 1,000 fps...

So, NO...factory +P ammo will not hurt your XD.

With factory +P you are good to go. It is the hand loaded +P from Bubba at the gun show I would be worried about.

+1 good to go. You dont want to shoot them all the time, because they are harder on the springs and such. That being said, I also carry the hornady xtp +p for personal defense.

    To clarify my previous post...

I load mine to 45 Super specs...230 XTP's @ 1,100 fps for the really hot ones. However, I like them better at 1,000 fps...more accurate, less recoil.

How are you getting away with that power level in a 45ACP ?
What kind of cases are you using ?
    Any high pressure signs ??
If not I'm thinking that would make a great short range deer load !!!

I havent shot it in yet, in fear of it damaging my XD, but now I will take about a mag of it to the range and do some comparasion between the regular jhp, and the jhp +p and see if there is any noticeable differences.

    My answers in red...

BE CAREFUL...EVERYTHING has to be perfect (OAL, powder charge,)...and only use the brass 1 time at 45 Super levels....after it has been fired one time it is only good for standard pressure 45acp loads.

I have fired lots of Double Tap 230gr loads, and they are above 1000fps. No issues...

I've been shooting the 165gr Corbons at well over 1000fps ( I thinkthey are either 1350 or 1150..can't remember off the top of my head) with absolutely 0 problems...great penetration and in California, heavy clothing isn't really a problem but in testing them in colorado, they shot through a parka, 4 layers of denim and a t shirt into Gelatin and still did 9.25" of Penetration and HUGE crush cavity and great stretch cavity. Perfect Expansion. Per specs they hit harder than the 185's and 230's...Nver had a single issue with overpressure signs or any other non-normal wear in my XD. Have about 5000 through it now.

Keep in mind that the FBI will not accept any load not delivering at LEAST 12 inches of penetration in theor tests, including barrier penetration before geletain. I'm not certain why civilian markets push the expansion and energy so much, when Law Enforcement calls for penetration first and foremost.

Even in 9mm, agencies are starting to shift to the 124s and 147s over the lighter and faster rounds.

The DPX bullet is an extremely good bullet, but I wish they were heavier, to dig a deeper hole.

The Double Taps I like are said to do:
    DoubleTap .45ACP
    Bullet Weight @ FPS - Penetration/Expansion
    185gr Gold Dot JHP @ 1225fps - 12.75" / .82"
    200gr Gold Dot JHP @ 1125fps - 14.25" / .88"
    230gr Gold Dot JHP @ 1010fps - 15.25" / .95"

But I do NOT believe this was independent testing... I think these are their numbers...

Generally speaking I'm a penetration guy.

I love the Douuble tap stuff as well. They perform really nicely and if CB's aren't available for whatever reason, that's what I prefer. In gelatin with the double layer of denim, they perform pretty much the exact same as the Corbons. as far as 9mm goes (which is my fave caliber) I wouldn't carry ANYONE's 147 grain for any reason. They just don't perform. At all. Which is why most LE has gone to .40 (which isn't much better....) The 115 outperforms most 40 and 45 (at least double taps and Corbons do....LOL) and the wear and reacoil issues are non existant. I'll take the 466lb/s and 12-13" of penetration over the 414 lb's with a 40 anyday of the week (Federal HST's +P)
