Hey guys, I have a Ria gi that I upgraded with a few parts. Ive bought a nicer 1911 that I like alot and the rock kinda just sits there.
My only complaint is the tiny gi sights suck but other than that its been great.
I put the rock up for sale and got a trade offer for a barely used G17 gen 4.
Never owned a full size glock, my only experience was a G42, which was nice but don't really miss it.
Intended uses carry iwb and truck gun. Think I should go for it? My friend says im crazy not to accept
If you've spent money upgrading yours then value wise it's pretty close to a wash, you'll come out a little ahead maybe. But if you'll get more use out of the Glock then go for it.
Ok, well my only concern is the size of the gun for carry. But looking at it this way I have no full size polymer handgun in the stable. Only 9mm's I have is pps m2 and a Smith 5906.
I have a Gen4 G17 that was my first ever handgun and I really like it! I've shot over 2k rounds through it with no issues, and it is my home defense gun sitting in a lock box with a Streamlight TLR-3 attached to it. I trust it completely and shoot it very well.
It would make a good truck gun, but for IWB carry it may not be ideal. The length of the grip can be tough to conceal, and the fact it is a double stack may or may not be as comfortable to you. My CCW gun is a Gen4 G19. The width of the grip doesn't bother me and it's very comfortable (I use a Crossbreed holster), but the fact that the grip of the 19 is about half an inch shorter than the 17 makes a difference for me in terms of concealability. I can conceal my 19 under a t shirt with no issues, but the longer grip of the 17 might be tougher to do.
All that said, I'm always an advocate of having a good full size, polymer service pistol in the arsenal, especially a Glock given how common they are. For an RIA that you don't really shoot and don't need, I'd say it's probably a good trade to make, but it is probably a good idea to handle and try a G17 first before you decide.
Ok i tried it out. I like it lol
I think I can get away with carrying it.
Trade offer comes with a iwb kydex carbon fiber looking holster.

Well sounds like a great deal then, especially if it includes a holster! If you are able to conceal and carry that full size gun, then it's hard to go wrong in doing so. The Gen4 is especially good IMO because of the slightly reduced grip, the aggressive texturing and the reprofiled, reversible mag release. Plus mags, holsters, sights and any other needed accessories are plentiful and affordable. A great all around gun that will serve you well!
Yeah that was my thinking too. I think both me and the other guy wanted to try a different gun. He had a G17 gen 3 that he stippled and carries. Said this one just sits in his safe. Crazy, I sold my xd to get the Rock and now I ended up with a glock heh. So far this holster isn't too shabby. I loaded it up full cap and been getting use to the added weight.
Im going tomorrow morning to try it out at the range.
I think im look at some other holster options. This single clip is great for grab and go on my way out to wrk but for off day carrying im leaning toward a dual clip hybrid holster. Never tried one before, Cabelas near me has a Galco king tuk I think its called available in store.
