You almost never hear about failures on glcoks "almost" But I heard about a few on the Xd as of lately. I'm thinking of either a 9mm or a .40 cal. The price of ammo might change my mind many times over. So the thoughts are either the 19/23 or the 4" service from Springfield or the 26/27 from Glock or the XDSC from springfield. I will use this gun for carring and for just fun plinking with the family. Thanks for the advise

Glocks have as many malfunctions as XDs, but mostly you hear about glock leg, you know, the lack of safeties that cops end up shooting themselves in the leg

Main reason to buy an xd over a glock is the grip angle, go shoot a glock and an xd and whichever one you shhot best, go buy, try a m&p too

It doesn't matter. Rent the ones you think you'll like, and then purchase the one that "feels" the best to you. Glock/XD. There really isn't much separating them except personal preference.

And it doesn't matter how many responses you get on this... you will not be one step closer to deciding. =)

My biggest reason for buying the XD was quite simple... As I saw it, the people on this forums tended to be more helpful and mature.

Buy a Glock. That way you won't have to worry about a failure ever.

Sarcasm aside. I don't care what gun you buy. All manufacturers have had issues at some point.

Buy the one that feels better in your hand and shoot better with. That's the one you'll want to carry.

You shouldn't get an XD. Get a glock I don't make money of XD sales.

    It's Personal Pref.
Many here have multiple Brands of pistols.
I have a 2nd Gen G-19 and it still works great.
To *ME*... The G-26 & XD-9sc both shot equally well, but the XD-9sc just felt better to me than the G-26.

Just find some place to shoot them both and decide for yourself.

I like the way XD's fit my hand and the point ability. Glocks just don't fit my grip and I've found I shoot alot worse with them. To each their own...

I originally purchased my xd45 because i wanted the added comfort of having an additional security measure in the grip safety but ended up also getting a G23 6 months later. Love them both but the xd45 is my everyday carry partially because of the grip safety but mostly cause it's awesome! If you can, shoot them all and hopefully that will help make your final decision.

    They are both good pistols.

Glocks work better for me; XD's work better for others.

Reliability is a wash with a slight (imho) nod to the Glock.

Shoot both, side by side, and see what works better for you.

I am a 1911 guy so I favor the XD. That being said the glock 30 is on my list.

I take it everyone in here shoots jacketed only. Glocks and lead don't mix. Now BEFORE anyone chimes in and calls BS, yes, there is a SPECIFIC brinell hardness that can be used...I think.

Past that, do yourself a favor and pick both of them up, get your normal stance and grip, only do so with your eyes closed. Point and aim, with your eyes closed, and then open your eyes and see what your point of aim is.

I buy XD's because I don't have to retrain what my body does naturally.

As far as Glock failures, my late Father did some finite element analysis work for Glock about a decade ago. What was found, was the tenefer coating made the barrels brittle, hence causing unwanted kaboom's. To my knowledge, Glock still uses the coating, but I am uncertain if they changed the heat treat methods of the barrels.

I also cannot stand that the glock barrels do not fully support the head of a casing. You can always tell what .40's came out of a glock from the distinct bulge in the side of the case at the head.

I am not at all a glock fan.

i agree... i noticed that with the grip angle of the glock (which is a great gun by the way) i always aimed high. i like my grip straighter, and the xd is a little more natural for me. other than that, youre pretty well off with either. the xd sits a little higher too, some people like that (i do) and some dont. there are a few youtube videos that compare the two. i like the ones by nutnfancy.

we all have our preferences, different hand sizes, and expeirence. I can tell you either one of them can work great, and either one can malfunction, I had a glock 19 that was a jammomatic. someone else might have an xd that dont function right. neither one I could guarantee as perfect. I have had a few glocks that work fine and currently have 3xd's that work fine. An old saying from my cow punching days; ( If ya aint been bucked off ya aint been on many.") given enough examples of each design, there will be issues, though the likleyhood with either is relatively small.

play with both and buy the one you like best.

can't believe someone brought up the glock safety thing. that's just funny, complete nonsense but funny.
