    Hopefully this isn't a repost.

I was in the trading post yesterday picking up an XD 45 and was told that they had no home protection ammo, all they had was cheaper range use ammo, and they only had about a dozen boxes of that!
The clerk said that getting ammo has very difficult lately, and it showed. This store is one of the bigger gun sellers in Maine and they were just about picked clean.
I had to go to a smaller dealer to get some home defense ammo.

Why is ammo so hard to get? Is it due to the surge in gun sales or is there another reason?

It's not scarce, we have billions of rounds in the bottom of people's closets. :D

Um ask all the ammo whore panic buyers why ammo is hard to get. Not to mention most suppliers support Walfart first. Hence it puts the screws too the mom and pop shops.

My buddy came over for dinner last night and we started talking about ammo shortage and my g/f said, "I think we should try and get more ammo for at least SOME of your guns."

Gosh, I guess that means I should spend some money and find some .223, .40 components (I reload), .45 components, some factory 9mm, and maybe 1000 7.62x39. My other guns are more safe queens and dontget shot much.

She said Obama scaresthe **** out of her and we should be ready for whatever could happen.

She sounds like a keeper!!!

I don't know if it is so much a case of hoarding as it is so many people buying new guns and wanting ammo to try them out.

Nope, I'm hoarding here. I think I'll order 2000 more rounds of .40 tomorrow.

    Some 9mm, too -- even though I don't own a 9mm gun... :p

You will be a rich man when the rest of us will be using our guns as trot line weights.;)

With the .45, just pick up a box of FMJ and don't worry about it until you see a box of JHP's. Its not like your shooting 9mm there... :)

+1, for SURE a keeper. I talked to my g/f about adopting the "box a week" plan, whicih roughtly translates into 250 rounds a month by the time its shipped on back order, and she just said "Okay." Damn, that was easy! :D

Here's the results of my search so far, hitting the local Bass Pro, Sports Authority, and Walmart X2, every other day or so for the last couple weeks...

    What I've been looking for:
    -- 115gr FMJ 9mm @ ~ $10/50
    -- 124gr HP 9mm+P @ ~ $25/50
    -- LSWC .38spl @ ~ $15/50
    -- PRN HV .22lr @ ~ $25/500

What I've found, but not bought:
    -- High-end .22's @ $36/500 ( shouldn't PRN HV be < $30? )
    -- 115gr JHP 9mm @ $20/50 ( range was selling CCI Blazer Aluminum for this! )
    -- 115gr HP 9mm+P @ $30/20 ( the SD rounds left, they're *really* proud of )

I think I've resolved to ordering reloads from D&G for practice, and ordering DoubleTap rounds for SD... even though they seem a tad overpriced for their possibly over-rated hot loads. The lead time is at least a month!
