I see online people asking if the XD 9 or whatever XD caliber is suitable for duty use. Of course it is. IMHO it beats Glock by a long shot just because they (the XD) don't use MIM extractors or firing pins. AND you cannot damage the breechface from simply dry fire practice like you can on a Glock. Round for round, pound for pound, the XD wins by a long shot in my book. I like the grip safety, trigger is much better, ya maybe the barrel height on the XD is a little higher than a Glock but with practice like anything else, follow up shots are a breeze. I only shot 304 rounds in the last week and I can run my XD 9mm 4 in Duty pistol very well, fast and accurate.
The XD is on the issue list for the Beverly Hills PD. University of Alabama PD. Few other small depts. There's probably 2 main reasons it isn't adopted elsewhere. Price and armorers courses. Glock and Sig sell guns to PD's dirt cheap and they allow any department that wants to certify an armorer for repairs in house. Springfield still requires guns to be sent out.
It's on a lot of backup lists. I qualified mine for backup carry and non duty carry. I did so because God forbid I legally shot someone off duty I have to turn the gun over indefinitely.
When we qualify something for off duty carry that's one of the forms we have to sign so I wanted something I shot very well that wasn't crazy expensive.
I believe the list that has Beverly Hills PD on it is a bit old and they may have switched, but yes, lots do, my agency has it (and SA 1911's) listed as approved/personally owned... We have 3 people carrying personal XD's.
I like both platforms. That being said you can't really compare durability from 300 test rounds in an XD vs the 10000 you say in a Glock.
If you did break an extractor in a Glock you could take it to the departments armorer and he could fix it. If you did the same in an XD you'd have to send it out for warranty work.

I don't compete I just practice every weekend and train with my buddies, prior military. I can knock Glock because they have failed me, not trollin. What, is .8 second head shot at 25 considered pro? Ive been shooting and training for years, before the millitary and since Ive been discharged. Believe what you want, but I will get a video up if you would like, just gotta barrow one of my buddies go pros.
Vickers, Mcnamara, Fisher, Costa, Haley can't do what your claiming with a stock gun.
Lets put it another way. Put a b25 @25 yards and shoot a 10 round group, thats how you prove you are accurate (even though your going to shoot it at 10 and claim it was 25)
Then shoot a dot torture target at 5 yards.
Post em up. Lets start there. @ajamesp51 know anyone thats ransom rested a an xd? I've never seen the mechanical accuracy defined.
How many rounds do yall shoot in a year you think..Im close to 60,000+/- between rifle pistol and shotgun. My name is James Bond. Im not giving out my name over a forum.
... a shot timer is an important training tool. It will measure the time from the buzzer to the shot. You can’t do that accurately with a stop watch or your phone ...
... At the buzzer, draw the gun and fire one shot at the target, trying for a center of mass hit ...
... top competitive shooters using “speed” gear can do this, including reaction time, in 0.7 seconds ...
Ok I would love to do that, I will prove to you guys that I can do it. Im serious, I wouldn't come on here and lie, just wanna talk XD with other XD owners. 25 feet by the way, not yards. But isn't that still fast?
Thats a great link. I do not have any video of this pistol practice but I can give you a link of my friend and I practicing and doing what we do every weekend with rifle. Check it out. ...will repost need to edit..
..unfortunatly that day we were just practicing, I wasn't planning on posting it online so I didn't get any pics or video of the targets....thats not gonna do me any justice after the pistol shooting claim but check it out see what you think.
I am a Glock Cert Armoror and I replace all my own parts on my xd..or will when the time comes. What if you extractor breaks when tweaker Mcgee comes through your door hot with a weapon looking to harm your family and your self (god forbid I hope this never happens Im just saying) are you going to call your local Armoror? Glocks extractors and firing pins are not made of TOOL STEEL ANYMORE SUCH AS 4140 OR 4150, THEY ARE BOTH MADE FROM M.I.M. Also being a Glock armoror I have seen 3 pistols with broken breech faces, the 40 cal the guy said it just broke from firing after about 12000 rounds, the 9mm breech face broke from being dry fired and the other 40 cal also broken breechface from dryfire. Glock WAS a great weapon before they started with the M.I.M. bullshit. I have read a lot about departments complaining about their duty pistols which are Glocks firing pins breaking after barely any rounds. I don't know, they just started cutting corners for more prophet. Now if you have an older Gen3 or Gen 2, you have a solid tool steel glock (extractor and striker-tool steel). Im getting ready to strip my XD down to nothing and give her a cleaning, round count right now is 430 rounds. Look Im not knocking glock, just speaking of true incidents.
3 broken pistols with 12000 rounds on them out of a few million are the exception not the rule. Hondas are great and reliable cars yet every Honda service department in the world is full of broken Honda's on a daily basis.
If Glocks were failing in mass quantities PD's would stop issuing them.
If you like the XD better that's great. I like it better too. I spent 18 years on active duty and now I work in law enforcement. I've never owned a Glock. That will change next week because I want a smaller reliable pistol.

i never owned a glock, but was told that they tend to "deform" the cases? is this true? as in bulging. stretching. or something along these lines making the case weaker so reloading can case the case to fail on re use.
Again you're talking the exception and not the rule. A guys friends girlfriends sisters cousin that knew a guy that talked to a girl that had a brother who replaced a few extractors isn't an example of a giant issue with a certain part. Guns break. All of them. Cheap ones expensive ones. They all do. Glocks break less and that's why literally 10's of thousands of law enforcement departments issue them. That and the fact that through the Blue Label program they're dirt cheap. I don't think they're great at anything. They happen to be good and reliable.
Chances are if you put 10k rounds through an XD you'll have to replace something. You'll just have to hope there's an aftermarket option for it because Springfield doesn't sell spare parts.
I carry an XD as a back up on occasion and off duty a lot. I shoot it well and it was cheap. Next week I pick up my Glock 32 for the same reason. Easy to conceal. Shoot it well. Not expensive and it does most things pretty good. Not great but I trust my life to one. As do a few hundred thousand people.

Doesn't sell small parts? Hmm they sold..wait...GAVE me pretty much all the parts to completely rebuild the slide for nothing....oh and Let me google that for you
Not certain what you're disagreeing with. I said they don't sell parts and......they don't.
They gave you parts. What are we googling?
