I think the PDX1 is the top choice right now.

Either JHP or a frangible, depending on your surrounding. I have been looking at Dynamic Research Technologies frangibles, but haven't bought any yet. Anyone here shot them? Thoughts?

I haven't shot them (frangibles) but I would never buy them for anything but target practice, never for home defense. IMO

Just curious, why is that? The DRT rounds aren't like the cheap frangibles that I see at stores. These might actually stop someone.

I stay with Speer Gold Dot. Tried and proven record. Not saying the two you're looking at doesn't work, just know the Gold Dot's have done the job for a long time. Like rayikeo2, I would never use a frangible for a defense round (from just reading about others experience with them).

I kept it simple. I have Hornady Critical Defense in my XD40SC. 0ne Mag of Black Talons and two Mags of Winchester Bonded PDX1.

That should be enough. I dont know if the Critical Defense is the best ammo bt I had good expireience with it with my little .380

I heard CD is one of the best for short barrel pistols.

I carry Speer Gold Dot in my 9mm, my 38spl and my .380. It is high quality, reliable and has proven expansion.

Actually, I would trust my life on any of the above listed bullets as long as they cycle through my gun.

I'm using Winchester Bonded PDX1 124 gr + P JHP. Althought this was not on Agalindo's list. It's what the FBI uses in .40 ammo so I assume it's good stuff. When I tested it, it was really accurate.

PDX is good stuff, the list doesn't include it because it hasn't been updated.

Black Talon is an older design and hard to find I wouldn't bother with it. There are better winchester designs now a days.

Hornady CD doesn't pass FBI/IWBA protocols and has had some quality control issues, I wouldn't trust my life on it.

Frangible ammo will absolutely turn a Prairie Dog inside out but its not so good for two-legged critters. Stick with something that will hold its mass.

if frangibles have a hard time penetrating mildy hard targets, then it will have a harder time penetrating a human body

Nobody uses soap to test terminal ballistics. What they are showing you is the temporary cavity created by a round. In pistol rounds temporary cavity does no significant wounding. Sure it looks nice but it doesn't mean anything. Even in rifle rounds the temp cavity does not show the read damage done by a bullet. The temp cavity greatly exaggerates the actual wound channel.

There's no information as far as depth of penetration, size of wound channel minus temp cavity. Gel calibration bb depth, temp of gel, nothing. Those test mean nothing. The wound cavity they show in ballistics gel is partially the temp cavity again it means nothing. Where are the pistol round test, gel calibration data?
