Ive been looking for a good concealed carry round for an XD40SC. I have selected what seems to be the most popular rounds on this forum. Please let me know what you think !! Tell me if I left out your favorite bullet for the XD40 Sub Compact.

Thanks for the votes. I think I will go with the 180gr GDHP Short Barrel(23974). I will have to go check them out at the range but they do seem like the best option for me.

I plan on testing the Remington Golden Saber 180 gr JHP (GS40SWB), Federal Tactical 165 gr JHP (LE40T3), Winchester 180 gr bonded JHP (Q4355 or S40SWPDB1) , Speer Gold Dot 180 gr JHP ,and the Speer Gold Dot 180 gr Short Barrel within the next week or so. I will post a my results here and in the ammo dump when I get done having some fun. Thanks again for the votes.

180 HST, 180 Ranger-T, 180 Gold Dot (not short barrel), 180 Win Bonded...whichever one I could find easiest, and was the least expensive, assuming that all of them were 100% reliable in my pistol and all shot with equal accuracy & controllability out of my pistol in my hands.

Looks like everybody likes the 180 for a sub compact pistol. I thought some would go for the 155 or 165 because of the lower recoil.

    Well, you see...here's the thing.

There once was a guy named Isaac Newton, who came up with the idea that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. And, it turns out he was right.

Now, since most of the 155 and 165 gr .40 rounds have more muzzle energy than 180's (because they're being pushed faster), when fired out of the same gun as a lower-energy 180gr bullet, they will actually recoil more.

But, for all practical purposes...the shooter usually can't tell the difference between the different loads.

The reason I recommend 180 gr is that heavier bullest tend to have better penetration than lighter ones, and penetration is the second-most important consideration in bullet performance (following, of course, placement).

Will the 180gr increase the danger of penetrating walls. I have a daughter and want to have the best round. My guess would be that any bullet that misses its target will have no problem penetrating two sheets of Sheetrock, but what if it hits one wall exits and hits another. The way my house is designd it would probably have to go through two rooms to get to her. Which bullet would be better? I know the best answer is not to miss. I,m practicing a lot, but I want to be overly cautious.

Any round that will penetrate deep enough to be effective in getting someone to rapidly cease being a threat will go through walls, plural, regardless of bullet weight. TANSTAAFL.

This, of course is with a missed round; a modern, well-designed JHP that opens as designed in tissue won't have enough energy.

    So, don't miss.

Hornady is about the only brand I have not shot out of a pistol. I have used them for my 270 and they seemed to be very accurate. Ill have to give them a try sometime.
